What make of parts?

My experience of none original parts has not been good, Britpart without a doubt have been the most unreliable parts I have used even to the point damaged parts have been boxed and supplied by Britpart.
There are supporters of none original parts including Britpart but you have to be careful what you get and then the quality control is so poor that you may buy two identical parts one is good the other one is poor.
I will not risk any other parts other than genuine Land Rover parts now including having changed any none original parts I had previously fitted.
Doing this there is a cost implication as genuine parts cost more and in some cases considerably more, I believe that by keeping a record of all parts I fit when the time comes to sell the vehicle it will be more attractive to a purchaser and that they will be willing to pay a premium price, thus returning some of my outlay for original parts.

Bearmach, i have used Britpart in the past and for that sort of stuff i have always found them to be faulty after a short period of time but for other stuff like springs and stuff Britpart are ok :)

Don't use BP if it involves anything related to:
Making it start
Making it move
Making it turn,
Making it stop
Part of an MOT

thats confusing in that any cheap branded part from bp or other is going to be a poor choice, but decent part from bp is as good as as any other

i shouldnt think it would make many willing to pay premium price

Nothing wrong with OEM parts, and as James says, some Britpart bits, like springs and wheels, is fine.

I think you will be lucky to find many second hand buyers will pay extra for genuine only parts, but best of luck with it.
The chap I bought my ninety from had taken it to the LR dealer all of the sixteen years he had owned it, and I didn't pay a lot for it.

Thanks guys - all good points and useful to know. Must admit I have brought a genuine water pump and a Denso alternator (uprated to 100A). It's the same one that goes into a Disco 300tdi - now I can't find out of it needs, or even if there is one as apart number, a heat shield! Perhaps I'll put a post on the Disco forum.

From the Disco forum:

An old thread I know but I was looking into 300tdi alternators today and was keen to get an answer to a similar question myself so thought I would share the knowledge.

The new improved plastic backed ones, AMR4248 (upto 96) and AMR5425 (later 96 on) don't need a heatshield as the plastic is now able to withstand the exhaust manifold heat.

No need to pay over the odds for genuine as often LR are just the retailer and the parts are made by a third party
I try to go for these brands as most are oem

Bearings -timken
Seals -corteco
Belts/tensioners -dayco
Starters / alternators denso, valeo, bosch all good
Brakes delphi/lockheed

It all depends on budget but ive found with both my cars and bikes that you will replace a cheap part quicker so they are no longer cheap
