Hi there,

I want to buy Land Rover Freelander (2001 to 2003year) but would mainly prefer 2003 year as they have more modern interior and better engines. I did heard that 2003-2004 years have a Jaguar engines am I right ? What's 2001-2003 common problems ? Also as far I have read in google that 1.9 petrol engines are bad.. is it true ?

What's your suggestions ? I want to buy petrol one so later I can add LPG (gas) and save some money. I will mainly use LR for roads and 10% for off road.

I really need your opinions and experience. About what year and what engine should I buy.

Regards,
Ed

If you really must have a Hippo get a td4

On no account consider the petrol unless of course you want to play HGF roulette. I believe they can be ok as long as you keep a sharp eye on coolant level. i.e never let it drop or let the engine overheat. (Like you'll have a choice in some areas of the UK when you may be stuck in traffic on hot days..........)

Better still

Buy a Freelander 2 TD4.
imho the Sd4 is better but you wont get one older than 2010.
The only serious issue I'm aware of with the Freelander 2 is rear diff failure on pre 2010 models. But I would think most will have been replaced by now

What ever you do decide, research thoroughly ;)

Check out all the posts on the Freelander faults thread on here as a minimum

I cant do a link on my phone you'll have to do a search if you cant see it in the Freelander section or unless some kindly soul can do it.
