the best landy offroad is the one that dosent get stuck, end of,regardless of whatever bling you have on it....

I grew up with 88's and 109's

I wanted an 88 County

Then I wanted an 88 V8 County

Then I wanted a Stage 1 V8

Then I wanted a Range Rover....

needless to say, every one that came out I wanted.....

now....

What could I afford to run?

None of them at the time...

So off to work for a Land Rover dealer, drove them all - great

but what could I afford to run?

None of them, still (thanks Government fuel tax hikes!)

so,...

I have a Freelander Td4, I can afford it! .. and I can put up with the slagging off because I know it's limitations . . and I'm a softy!!

But, at £305 Insurance, and 38-40mpg, I can afford it!

but what would I like?

A Defender 90 .. one day maybe...

Best offroader before mod's has to be a 90.
But I love a disco, their a great design. Comfortable, spacious, warm, loads of mod cons, eat up the miles on the motorway and still great off road.

The Evoque isn't in the poll, I've read reviews that say their electrickery can make them tackle slopes that only triallers would usually attempt.

Might be because even with a raised air intake it still wont wade more than 500 mm without getting wet carpets, also and although I agree the traction control is excellent its ground clearance, approach/departure and break over angles are pitiful ;)

got to be defender 90 un modified just drove one on a 4x4 course wet up hills in low gear without using throttle and at angles that made my bum twitch

LR say its the Disco 3, a Disco 2 with traction control will beat a 90 in wet sloppy mud, for a 'mechanical' system the defender has it as its light, nimble and compact but at the end of the day it comes down to the terrain as to what vehicles best, they all have good points and they all have bad points...
