What is this?

Hi all, can anyone tell me what this is please? (p38 2.5 DSE auto 1996)

It sit on what looks like front of the gearbox, next to the exhaust.

Looks a little worse for where, with a few splits in the rubber, just wondered what it does and if I need to replace it due to it warping and cracking.

Im guessing gearbox plug to stop water coming in when your wading in water?

IIRC its a plug to cover the access to the bolts connecting the triangular driveplate to the torque convertor.

If you're removing the engine or gearbox you need to remove the three bolts through here to split them otherwise you can damage the torque convertor/gearbox
