What is the best?

So for my first proper post I thought I would ask this question: what DIESEL model is the best? I.e l series or TD4 ?
The reason I ask is I have a 98 l series and am thinking or upgrading to a TD4 and would like to know if it's worth it? Thanks all

L-series Rooolz ! . Cheaper than Td4, simple and immortal. Made from metal, not plastic like TD4, much simple and less electronics.

TD4 is faster and more economical.
L series is more robust.
Both can be tuned for performance, but the L series can be tuned more.
If it were my choice, I'd go for the L series.

Thanks chap I must admit I love my l series she hasn't failed me yet, although I have done quite a bit to get her up to scratch next job this week is to weld the rear sub frame.

would only have a TD4 if it was given or dirt cheap

So it seems the l series is generally considered a better Landy can anyone tell me y this is as the TD4 was supposed to be a lot better and relaunch the freebie ?

personal thing tho really no doubt people will be on saying the TD4 rules

as for me i like a few things about it

cheaper to fix
more reliable
cheaper tax band
ok its not as good on fuel but there isnt much diff between them

The L series is Rover.

The L series is now roughly 14 years old for the newest and for the TD4 about 71/2 years old for the newest.

I went for the TD4 because it had the BMW engine and it was newer - I went for one of the last, registered in July 2006. I need a reliable car (so why did I buy a Land Rover? ) I also wanted an auto. Not sure if the L series was offered with a auto box. If it was I wouldn't have bought an old car anyway.

As said above. Its a personal thing.

Oh, and I didn't realise the L series could get up to 165-170bhp.....

The L series is a Rover engine based on the durable Perkins Prima. It's tough if a little crude but cheap should it need fixing. It can be made very powerful.
The TD4 comes with BMW sized repair bills with reliability worse than the L.
