the 2 cases you mention should i believe be called hybrids the worrying ones are the blatantly obvious ringers i.e 90's sold as series 3's where the only engineering work has been to switch No plates and log books.
Because of the interchangeability of land rover parts hybrids are unique IMO and should be able to be registered via SVA on an age related plate determined by the highest % of parts used but still classed as a hybrid in V5
 
when i build my hybrid its gonna be registered as a hybried but on the reg of the chassis not anything else
the way i see it you cant have a landy without a chassis its impossible so the id on the chassis should be the id of the vehicle
