Series 3 What is involved in changing this gasket?

Good day everybody
My landy (1985 Santana Series 3) is leaking oil more than usual and after showing it to some mechanics I was told I need to change this gasket (photo included). I bought the thing and am wondering if I can do it myself?
What is involved in changing this thing and what tools would one need? Do I need to empty the engine oil (guess yes) ?

Simple

I take it you are not even sure where it goes?
Under the bit on the top with the oil cap.

You're in luck its probably the easiest one there is to change, undo a couple of bits and bobs take off the rocker cover and Roberts your mothers brother.

Take the rocker cover off (as said above, the box on top of the engine, clean both surfaces. No need to drain oil. Put grease on the engine surface and stick the gasket to the cover with gasket sealant. This way the gasket stays in place when you put the cover on and if you have to take it off it comes apart easily. Do the nuts up hand tight plus a little bit, no more. The biggest cause of leaks on this part is doing it up too tight so it bends.

Thanks for quick reply Marjon. I had figured that much but question is "is this one of those things that when you take off every spring and bolts fly off or will it behave like a good cover should, and I can simply take the other one and put this one in?"
Would I need to empty the oil first?
What tools are needed?
I did a bit of search and some posts on this fabulus site were talking about flywheels and other complications.

1/2 inch or 13mm spanner

i wouldnt use grease with a cork gasket ,stick gasket to rocker cover certainly

Lol if you take it off and you can see the flywheel probably best not to try and start it

Thanks for your replies everybody. I will try it tomorrow. The same ass of a mechanic had opened the engine top 6 months ago and changed several items including this gasket. It should have lasted more than 6 months. Hate to go back to him again.

I know sometimes I sould like a bigger fool than I actually am. Most often it is the other way around
