Kicked it in anger when it cut out greenlaning and then wouldn't start again. Then ordered a new starter motor when I got home.

On my Disco 300tdi I covered the rear inner arches, the rear foot well right across, the drivers and passengers footwells and the transmission tunnel with aluminium flashing tape and it's made it a nicer quieter place.

We can hear the stereo now even with those stupid 4" speakers the Land Rover thought would be adequate for a big vehicle, we can even have a conversation (there's always a down side)

What did the RAC say? Did they get it going?

He did eventually! Tried everything we did to no avail, eventually got a cool little gadget out which bypassed the solenoid - basically a positive and negative wire with a push button, connected the wires and held the button down which manually turned the starter over - just enough to start the engine. Then was a case of getting home without it stalling/cutting out, which I did. Sure enough it won't start again so ordered a new starter motor, will hopefully be with me tomorrow!
