Dropped off my wheels at the local tyre place to have a set of 5 235/85/R16 Enduro Runway AT's fitted. Just hope I made the right decision on the tyres. Funds wont run to BFG's and I don't fancy remoulds, although I'm sure modern remoulds are fine, I have a very long memory and can remember the dreadful rubbish that used to be marketed by the remoulders.

Wire brushed the chassis at the back and painted the rear cross member with Hammerite paint..I'll be buying some goggles before i do anymore.Sunglasses are **** at keeping muck out your eyes.Who'd have guessed?

took it for mot........ FAIL....

two days of welding rear mounts and cross member, rear wheel arch, hole in chassis... and still a fail... mechanically fine, just one drag link to replace..

but 10 points for welding....

all mounts on both sills... thats six items but just inner sills to replace..

couple bits on boot floor where wheel arches meet floor..

and bottom of c post on o/s cos the wheel arch aint got nothin to attach to...

so its not as big a job as it looked when i picked up the fail sheet...

oh well another 2 days of welding and should be done...

Changed front pads the other day cos there was nowt left on one side and found both calipers had a seized piston each.
Changed oil today, and whilst underneath undoing the sump plug I heard a hissing from one tyre, and when I checked the front prop (which I only changed about 3 months ago) for movement, the front UJ is on its way out!

Least I found out before it went this time tho!!

took it for it's first proper drive since dropping the 200tdi in, motorway speeds no problem, much better on fuel,a bit quieter, vast improvement on me 19j.

removed all the trim, carpets, seat belts, dicky seats, c post trim from the boot to see the extent of the rust... much worse than i thought, aint it always!

bought a new socket set, some grinding discs, some cuttin discs and attacked the rust...

made up some repair panels and welded em in..

forgot to get some curved snips while i was out so couldnt cut any more panels..

got 80% of the nearside done... off side is much worse though...

Sucessful : Started wiring up my front spots to my Raptor dash, (with wifes help!!!), wired in my turbo boost guage, and my radio aerial.

Unsucessful : Tried to remove the steering link, but don't seem to have enough play to slide it up the splines enough to remove it.

Fitted my new 285x75x16 BF goodrich mud terrains on silver Modulars, my OME +2" shocks and springs and diff guards...........good day apart from shearing both rear shock mounts:doh:

Changed diff oils in the disco and stuck the off-road wheels on. Then changed the the trackrod on the rage rover, wouldve been nice if I didnt spend 2 hours with a pipe wrench trying to get ball joint off the old very corroded bar.. Sigh

Fitted a new drag link ball joint and both track rod ends, again with the use of Buster's guides :D Might need to do the drop arm ball joint as well, but that can wait ;)

Ha, you were doing the same as us today then! Took half a can of WD-40, a big hammer, two pairs of mole grips and a bloody big vice to get the ball joints out of my steering rods. Nice shiny new ones in now though :)

Just gotta get its MOT again next ready for university!

Yup  Gonna book it in for early next week, still gotta sort out niggly things like my intermittent rear fog lamp. Fingers crossed though :D
When you going up to Harpers?
