What have you done to your Landie today.

Just applied some Vactan to various rust patches on front of chassis around the jacking points and painted the new hinges, crossmember and rock sliders with smooth black Hammerite ... just before it got dark.

phoned paddocks this morning and added a silencer replacement pipe for the 110 to the order of the bfg m/t's

If so, tell me more, I too have a pair to fit at the week-end.

Used the sticky tape ones before (peugeot). They not too bad to fit. Make sure you degrease the mating face fully. I held mine in place and put a couple of bits of masking tape on the top. Held it up, pulled the film off tape and put back down. It just helped to get it right first time. Failing that use clear silicone (did on my jeep as got them 2nd hand). That way you get a bit of wiggle time to line it up properly

I have lined the underfloor boot compartment in the Freelander with fluffy material to hold the curling tongs nice and steady.

Thanks Egor - I intend to warm the two mating faces up for bvetter adhesion, but I will use your tape idea to line them up first.

I was more concerned about how he shattered one of them.

It depends on the type. My girlfriend has some on her corsa and they go inside the window channel. I nearly did one in fitting them. Warn soapy water then the degreasing wipes. Warms the rubber slightly and cleans most the crap off, then the wipe to remove the residue. If I remember rightly I used glass cleaner aswell.

I have plenty of de-greasing and cleaning solutions which will do the job well, and there is no instructions with them. Judging by the size and shape, they are designed to simply stick on the outside of the door. I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile using the hot glue gun to stick them on instead of the double sided tape that is on them...........

Well, it's like this ...

The instructions from the suppliers (not Paddocks, but some Skovakian outfit via ebaY) included having to gently bend the deflectors "by about one and a half centimetres" in order to be able to locate both front and rear ends in the window channel. I estimate that at about 1.6 cm deflection, and with the cool ambient temperature that prevailed (Your Honour), things got too much for the poor thing and it let go with an almighty crack, breaking cleanly in two. I managed to fix it using superglue (or similar) and a bulldog clip. Bloody annoyed with myself. Clumsy arse (etc etc) .....

These deflectors are the ones that fit snugly into the channels with just two short lengths of adhesive at either end and a couple of spring clips that you shove up between the perspex and metal to keep things tight. as a design it works well. I'd just recommend that you warm the perspex before starting to fit the deflectors to reduce the shattering affect.

They're certainly worth persevering with, I'd say, and they only cost me about £25 including P&P.

... so, today's 'project' had to be one with minimal chance of going wrong.

I decided to replace the rusty screws on the wing-tops vents with a stainless variety - about a fiver from Defender Bits (incl P&P). Even I couldn't get that wrong!

Fair play fella, I use the very same stainless screws and find that as long as you remove the old ones by unscrewing counter clockwise and then fitting the new ones with a clockwise movement you don't go far wrong

Replaced the faulty tail light unit.
Vacuumed about half a hundredweight of corn out from behind the seats.

Got the grease gun on the Prop and UJ nipples and applied three squeezes to each. Also gave a couple of squeezes to the track rod end nipples. On to the wife now
