What have you done to your Freelander today

This morning I checked over a second hand replacement EGR valve assembly, which appears to be coolant leak free.
I also noted a potential coolant leak point between the EGR cooler and the coolant passages in the EGR valve itself. The gasket between the 2 components is an elastomer coated steel shim type, and looking at this gasket it appears that the bond between the steel and elastomer deteriorates.
This could well be the issue with my EGR cooler, so it's a good job I had the foresight to order a replacement gasket.
I was only planning on fitting the second hand cooler, as my EGR valve is know to work.

However my plans to install the replacement cooler were scuppered, when Mrs Nodge said her VW has started spluttering after putting £40 of petrol in the tank. I replied it will splutter, your Eos is a diesel. :eek:
So I spent the rest of the afternoon draining 30 litres of petrol diesel mix from the tank, before refilling with fresh diesel and 500ml of stroke oil for good measure.
Thankfully it seems to run ok, so hopefully the weather will be ok for me to change the EGR cooler tomorrow instead.

I've no idea what she was thinking. It's not like it's new to her, she's had it for over 2 years, and puts in £80 of diesel per week.
For some reason this week she decided that it wanted to try petrol instead. :eek:

At least it wasn't too difficult to deal with, if a little time consuming.

Thank for the offer Andy, but I've already got a depository for the petrol/diesel mix, it's called the daughter's Fiat 500 1.4 Sport.
I pumped about 10 litres into it yesterday, which doubled its tank contents, and it seems to run just fine.
I've only got another 20 litres or so to use, which is one advantage to expensive fuel, you don't get much for the money.

I'll be using the Fiat this week, while I'm messing about with the hard to get at EGR cooler on my FL2. :(
 
Splashed out 70p on a new tailgate numberplate lamp.

Does anyone know of anything cheaper I could buy for the car? (and I'm not talking furry dice or an air freshener made from scent soaked cardboard cut up to look like a xmas tree)
 
Does the cheap part need to be new? Parts from a acrappedparts car are the best - in man-maths terms, these bits are effectively “free”! Lol
 
Where did you get the nuts please? I bought some and they rusted within days and turned orange !! I now got them power coated and carry a plastic glove finger to put on them when loosening. Sad but true !
