What have you done to your Freelander today

Could do, or give us the mileage and we'll predict your future failures. Don't want too much enjoyment and boredom do you!?!

It's about 282 000 km's now and this is not my daily driver, so I don't care if it spends more time in my garage than on the road. Been really enjoyable times to work with it. My first LR ever and super happy with it.

Don't know is there any point to change the serpentine belt in TD4? Don't know how old it is. It looks good and doesn't give any noises.

Low pressure fuel pump and filter is something I haven't touched yet. The bolts of the plastic cradle look really horrible, should be a nice fight! :)

From memory, it's suggested it's changed at 10 year intervals, but if it looks ok, I'd leave it. ;)

They can be a pain to do, especially when the filter and or pump get stuck in the cradle.

Bought oil today to give the old girl a service. It really irritates me every time that it takes 4.9 liters and the oil I want to buy is always supplied in 4L containers. So I always have the dilemma of buying 2 4L or a 4L and a bloody expensive 1L grrr.

What's worse is that I know I'll probably find a few liters in the bottom of containers in the garage, but can't be arsed to go back out if I can't.

Was given an advisory that I need to get 2 tyres replaced at my last WOF. I've been working out of the city for the last few weeks, went into the local tyre shop down there to get them to replaced... $265 each. Its a number of years ago, but I only paid about $150 each last time so I asked if he was sure that's the price. Yes he says, price of tyres has gone up. I didn't get then done! Came back into town and rung up the place I normally go to... $164 (£80) each. Thieving fricking country twats.

Successfully launched a missile from the TD4 cylinder head.

I forgot that last week, after removing the glow plugs, I put them back in just hand tight, to stop crud from falling into the holes. So as I was starting the engine today… with a loud pop and a puff, a glow plug is airborne. No sign of it in our garden, so it must be next door (oops!)

As I carried on working on the car into the afternoon, it got a little bit tense when said neighbour started to mow his lawn. I was waiting for the crunch. And every time the mower stopped, thought to myself, has he found a 5” javelin in the lawn.

So far so good though.

Just goes to show, you could have an eye out with those (or worse!).

Great post. It's made me chuckle

I removed the rear wiper arm today to stop it rubbing on the rear door (as I keep forgetting it's doing that and every time I select reverse with the fronts on it removes a bit more steel from the door). My original intention was to get the heat gun out and sort the arm, but now I'm wondering if I just leave it off. The back end looks smarter without it. Thoughts?

If it were me, I'd just replace the arm. They seem to bend in time, and begin to rub the paint off the door. I had the same with mine, but fitted a new arm and blade fixed the issue, and wasn't really that expensive to do.

But at least you don't have a hole in the bonnet to say it was yours ... :D

Can you not fit a spacer or longer shaft to sort our a defective design ?

Just a suggestion from a non- Freelie owner ...

Not easily. The arm is plastic, so suffers so deformation, probably due to heating from the sun in combination with the powerful spring.

Just changing the arm and blade sorts the issue, unless the motor spindle bush is worn too. ;)

Did the service today.

As expected, couple of bottles of oil in the garage with oil in... will see if I can get a return/refund on the expensive 1L bottle.

Service took 15 minutes. Removing and refitting the undertray, bloody ages, I hate that undertray.

Today was trip FOUR to Kwik fit to get them to sort my tracking after new tyres were fitted a couple of months ago - and it's still not right! Going back AGAIN tomorrow!

I drilled two holes in the plastic of the under tray to access the front mounting bolts & replaced all the screws & bolts with s/less steel items so mine comes off in 2-3 minutes once I have the tools ready, having said that why they didn't put a small cover in for oil draining, with a couple of quick release fastners I'll never know.

Hi, when I got mine back in April 17 it had rubbed some paint off so I replaced the arm & blade with a pattern job but it only cleared half the glass so I ended up putting a genuine one on & it's been fine ever since. Incidentally I fitted a pattern item to my D2 & that is only clearing 1/2 the screen as well so I'll give that the heat treatment I think as I've spent a lot on it already.

New tires and rims and a new gas cap today. Next up will be new drums and fixing up the driver’s seat
