What have you done to your Freelander today

Does anyone else find that fl1's have crap main beams?
Mine is terrible especially driving at twilight/night?
Yes mine is awful. Even when it's pitch black can't see a thing be better off sticking candles in the lights
 
Hmm, head lamps, I'm pretty impressed with my standard ones. Add those nice LR driving lamps to increase both spread and a bit of range and they are good. It may just be down to the cleaner atmosphere around here.
 
Hmm... Might have to invest in a set. Not sure yet see what the osram bulbs are like.


Also today I drove it into a fence for absolutely no logical reason what so ever :)
 
Well first drive with the night breakers tonight and...

Well they are a bit whiter and a bit brighter, but not quite the revelation that some raving reviews would lead you to believe. Certainly no challenger to HIDs but then again they are legal and safe in early headlights. I'd say worth a punt if you need to change your lamps anyway (as I did) and at £13 a pair from Amazon not too pricey either.

I've come to the freelander from a VW T4 which is also known for dull headlights and people have been fitting a "high power wiring loom" to those which is supposed to increase current to the lamps and make them brighter. Don't know if it's been tried on a freelander but it's basically wiring the headlights up through relays as if they were spotlights, with the original power feeds triggering the relays. The power feed is made up with thicker wire to carry more current / less resistance. Makes sense in theory but I never tried it on mine.

Today I changed the oil and oil filter after changing both on the 27/10/14 as I like to run the car on a cheap oil for at least 3/4 weeks and then do another change which then will last me at least six months, as I also like to change the oil twice a year.

I also changed the two belts while I had the under tray off so not a bad day really considering it started to rain about 15.00 pm :)

I wished I could address members by their names :eek: but nearly everyone as not added their name to the about me.

Any ways back to the belts, while I had the car on the ramps doing the oil change I could not believe how much room you have compared to the R75 diesel lump to remove the belts so easy, what make it even easier is that I use an aviation ring spanner which is just the tool for the job it is long enough to get the leverage on the tensioner.

The other end of the aviation ring spanner is 22mm this fits the tensioner for the small compressor belt which needed changing also, I will be posting my findings about it later this evening cheers Arctic2 ;)

prepared the rear back box by sparing it with zinc paint, hopefully fitting it tomorrow, also gave the existing clamp a good spray with plus gas again hopefully helping it to release easier Arctic2
