Mine sailed through at a land rover main dealer! You can't do anything considered to be unsafe by the tester, I used to be one so I know what's involved. You can't just cut lumps out of your chassis and expect a pass, cos it'd be classed as an unsafe modification, cutting the lip off and seam welding the cut is fine as its a proper repair. Track rod ends, again you can't do anything that'd weaken them, I painted mine then drove thru some muddy puddles to make it look like it'd been done for a while but I actually did it just for its mot, if a land rover garage was happy I'd imagine any other garage probably wouldn't even notice

Thanks for that mate. Have you only removed the lip at the bottom of the original hole, between the bottom and the chassis rail?
I have no intention of cutting the rail, just the lip. I have cheap track rod ends on mine at the minute, so I will have a look at grinding them down, then painting them. I'm driving off road enough to cover any marks I make.

There's a knob that hangs down by the lock bolt which is the lowest point, all I did was grind it off so it looked like it was never there! You just need to sit with your head in the arch while someone moves the steering and keep tweaking until it all clears, just do the minimum you have to!

The other day fitted Osram Nightreaker plus bulbs as the standard one are crap and one had gone. I thought the Freelander had a warning for when bulbs were gone. I then found yesterday that a sidelight bulb had gone on the other side so ordered a set of 8 SMD LED ones and some 4's for the rear numberplate lights. Should look good once fitted.

I know that now. As much as I like my Freelander I do find it lacking in some basic things like a bulb check and outside temperature which other much more basic cars have had for years now. It was one thing when the early model didn't have one but it could have easily been added on the facelift. not good enough on what would have been an expensive car. My old SD1 Vitesse even had a bulb out warning light. Yes I know it is an easy thing to check but the wife has been using the car for ages and might have taken notice of a warning light.
Ah, the wives - they only seem to notice if it actually stops in middle of road. Mine wont drive the Fleabag - hates it - suits me!!

Maybe but women don't use them. Never had a bulb go on a Freelander before so it's the first time I noticed that it doesn't have a bulb check. Had so money cars with one as standard.
Yep just have to go back the traditional ways of old, using the eyes.My bulbs just aint twinkly enuf and they don't switch on by themselves - you have to SEE its getting dark. Hopefully this will be put right in next purchase
I have to say as I get older a fully loaded Disco or RR that cossets me becomes ever more appealing. Newer cars have so many more toys.

as for attention to the car, well I have owned many over the years and spent plenty of time money and attention on them all not just the Fleabag as you put it. Cars are my hobby and interest. Can't say if would spend as much as that guy from Poland has but hey who am I to judge. I admire his attention to detail and only wish I had the talent to carry out something similar. It would be a sad old world if we all listened to opinions such as yours. Go forth and modify! If anyone that tells you you are mad for doing so, well you know what to tell them.....

Agree, If that's what he wants to spend his time and money on, good luck to him - so what exactly is my opinion? That I would not spend this amount of time and money on a Freelander is completely true. That I have never seen a modified car that I have wanted to own, again true. That if I had the funds, I would buy an unmodified RR Sport, true. I believe we are all a bit mad on here bcos we choose to own a vehicle with so many documented faults.

and as a bit of a change of subject.....DPH silicon hose kit arrived today, drivers window regulator kit and Synergy 2 arrived yesterday so if it's not raining tomorrow it looks like I'm going to be a busy chap.
Agreed, some of them do have many faults but if you own any make of car and hang around with others of the same make and model you will find the same catalogue of faults. Sometimes you will hit lucky and the car will have been looked after and never have any of the faults. If you do suffer any of the faults though most can be fixed and the FL can be an everyday reliable car. Rather like mine. I look at like this, every so often I will have to pay out for something to be fixed this may cost £200 or so but that is very rare. The car is all mine and paid for. I could go out and buy a much newer Disco, Range Rover or Sport however I would be paying out £300+ every month minimum plus the cost of it going wrong every so often on top.Agree, If that's what he wants to spend his time and money on, good luck to him - so what exactly is my opinion? Any LR is a very specific car... no matter how old it is. If you would like to live with it, you must learn to accept his flaws. All those little imperfections implemented to each one makes them so perfect .
I got a small engraved plate bolted inside my luggage compartment with words :
"I have a teddy bear. I've had it since the day I was born. One of its arms has fallen off, one of its eyes is missing, his head has come off more times than I can mention. To you it would be worthless junk, but to me it means everything and it's the same story with this car - J.Clarkson
