What have you done to your Freelander today

I'm beginning to hear you...

I just find the styling so boring. The interior is very well thought out and I love the cup heaters/coolers and the secret heated pasty locker in the dash. Just all feels a bit cheap, despite being very good build quality. The 6th gear is a bonus and it really flies for what it is (136bhp DCi). He reckons on 48mpg on a long run- what say you? I do mainly motorways so that's all I care about.

mine was the early model - 5 gears 2.0 litre petrol 25-30mpg. doozils had probs with turbos blowing up.

agree it looks a bit cheap inside, but for 5 years I could jump in it and drive it with no second thoughts. thats worth a lot.

That's very true. I've lost confidence in my Freelander now. His turbo blew after a couple of weeks of him buying it, but easy enough to change. The oil drain pipe on it is very small IIRC. Combine that with poor turbo maintenance, 'extended' oil changes and being up front behind the rad might not help. Access is very good though- just remove the rad and it's all there. I'd hate to do a TD4 one!

If the rear diff has siezed on you, I would think there's a good chance it has done damage to your IRD even over a short distance.

With the known problems you describe with the x-Trail though it sounds a bit like frying pan and fire! What is availability and pricing like for parts?

I've got a mate with an x-Trail, I've never been in it but another mate (who drives Subarus) has and he reconned the ride was ****e - far to soft and rolly. Also reconned the thing looks ****e outside and inside - what is it with center speedos! He reconned the Freelander was much more comfortable.

No - I would recommend an XT any day. Yu get used to the instruments very quickly. The ride is more car like, but my wife preferred it to the freelander. Yes the insidedoes look cheaper, but mine was very reliable.

Today I took the starter out of my '02 TD4 to replace the contacts as it started to occasionally just go "click" and very quickly that become more often than not.

The starter bolts aren't easy to get to and I ended up removing the undertray to recover all of the tools I'd dropped.... then to find that the contact set I had bought on e-bay was the wrong one and missing the middle plunger... Grrr etc.

Saturday I'm going to have a go at doing the thermostat using the method on this site without removing the pump. I know the gates/Renault mod is popular but I just don't like the idea of leaving a failed part in the engine....

Washed it, in the rain.
I normally send it to one of the many many hand car washes but I couldn't face spending £15 for it to just get dirty again tomorrow. I just couldn't stand it being so dirty

Drove it with the now getting louder sound of my propshaft bearings dieing, why can't it stop raining so I can take it off??
Tell me about it ive got walls to build..

Went fora 150yrd off roadwhile paying for some building materials.. Thoroughly enjoyed it which is a good job as tberes no other choice ha lets say the lanes abit rough..

Almost got it stuck in a field. The ground is so soft the Freelander carved 2 parallel ruts rite across the field.
Roll on summer!!

My local ones charge me £7.00.

I just tried to use the car washes that are at the side of the road or across them.......the locals call them puddles... Hit them at speed and it covers the whole car. :D

ANY puddle over 10mph ends up over my bonnet, and the spacers make it worse. They are also the reason is so dirty as any dirt I go through gets thrown up the side of it. It had been about a month worths of dirt and if I took it to the local car wash I would want them to do inside aswell. I care more about the inside because that's the bit I see the most
