Other what have u done on ur disco today

I had bought a kit for the air suspension compressor and I have changed the piston sealing ring and the dessicant in the air dryer. The compressor was making an awful racket before and the 'off road mode' didn't work. The compressor sounds better now and the ORM works.
The problem is that I couldn't get the compressor box off as the captive inserts just spin, so I have just removed the cylinder head and air dryer. Tomorrow I will have the awful job of trying to fit the three screws that go through the bottom of the box and clamp the compressor to the box. Its hard because the compressor doesn't seem to want to fit far enough back. Hopefully it might seem clearer in daylight.

Drove to Paddocks to get some swivel bearings as craddocks had sold out yesterday then got back home and washed it for the first time since 2014 
Scrubbed up OK


Then collected a bottom end of a 300tdi so I can rob the sump of it to replace my leaky one.
Hopefully re mot time tomorrow

That should be a nice little earner if you just flip it..............

I've done about 250 miles in my defender today and to be honest I think it's the final nail in its coffin, as much as it's a great and supposedly iconic vehicle it's just to noisy. I've got a sound meter on my phone and it was registering 78dB at 60mph. Tinitus central

That is less than industrial safety stds......................Listening to R2 the other day, they were talking about hearing loss, there was a guy on there with exactly the same issue I have, not being able to hear a conversation in a loud background environment............. the I thought about it.....

Working in industry , Motorcycles, Skydiving , and final nail in the old earhole, a darn 90 softtop with 285 BFG Muds..............

I wonder why I find myself driving the D2 more often than not, unless I am going to play or the sun is shining......

Well I'm restoring a 2a and if I sell the defender I'll be keeping the old girl but if I wanted to go laning in Wales I'd probably hire a trailer and tow it there

Yeah I'm proper chuffed as I think all in it's cost less than 700 quid mot'd and fully serviced
Looking forward to taking it for a spin tomorrow then hopefully Wales on Saturday

Chassis is solid as are the wheel arches and both sides of the rear seat belt mounts are like the one in the photo. Needs treating underneath with Por15 when I get chance but I was really surprised by it's condition. Originally I wanted a discovery transfer box for my defender, I won this on eBay for 510 quid with the intention of breaking it but it's solid. It needed a swivel bearing and the earths sorting on the front lights for its mot

when i was looking around , couldn't for love or money find a decent chassis

at one time i was wondering of getting one with a bad chassis cheap, trouble was i don't know anyone who would have done the job for me

but then the D3 turned up cheap as chips, but knew it needed work and felt with around 6-8 months of work i will end up with a decent disco

You know , it just so happens I have a disco tbox on an old D1, do you a swap....................
I keep looking for one like this , just not lucky to find a good one.

It was parked up in a haulage yard and the owner had fell out with the bloke who owned the company and had to get rid, he ended the auction at ten past eight Saturday morning. I fully expected a rot box but I knew I could get my money back selling the wheels alone. If I like it I'll keep it and sell my defender, if not I'll stick it on Gumtree and keep my eyes open for another one to break for its transfer box

Yesterday I serviced the SLS compressor and today I mounted it back in its box. I decided to try and level the rear ride heights as the passenger side has always been set higher at the back. When I looked at the bump stops there was only one on the drivers side. I did the best I could using axle stands and the Lynx. I have a pair of new ride height sensors but I will see how I get on as it is.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery before you start disconnecting the ride height sensors, even though you're in the process of trying to calibrate the height.

Took my D3 to Bristol Transmissions for new torque converter fitting and gearbox flush, with new steel pan fitted, all covered by warranty

It doesn't seem too bad at the moment so I will leave fitting them till some nice sunny weather when I have worked my way down the list of other things and after May's MOT. I could do with finding another front seat.

Switch is fubarred, ordered a new one. Plus, a crowsfoot spanner set, cos I reckon it will make it easier to fit the switch..........Well, that is my excuse and I am sticking to it................

The got a phone call of my Old man, apparently his D1 has stopped starting, the ignition barrel is loose.......So guess what I am going to play with in the next few days.

Striped and rebuilt both front hubs and swivels as one was a fail on the mot and the other was an advisory. Not a great deal of lube going on in there



And what there was had glooped up a bit

Also found some rot on both floor pans




Could be worse I suppose, welder and oil pan swap tomorrow
