Just bought a 1.8 freelander to get about in over the winter as my XKR gets a bit unruly in a heavy frost. Last nights 5 hour journey from Reading was an experience I do not want to repeat.

I wanted a TD4, but they seem to be as rare as hens teeth and given the short notice of my requirement, I just grabbed what was available locally.

Given the issues with the 1.8 are well documented, are there any hints & tips that may help me identify any issues early. Also, has anyone modified the coolant system to extend the time between a coolant failure and the subsequent hgf?

looking forward to cultivating a relationship with the AA.

hope yu bought it from a dealer and have a very good warranty. Yes - threre is a modified remote thermostat - get that fitted and get an EWP fitted which runs after the engine stops.

Oh and get religious.;)

Cheers MHM - I'm not averse to wielding the odd spanner or two. Is it possible to drop a TD4 engine in as a replacement for the inevitable?

wack a feckin V8 in the bastid that will do it...

also my mate used to run 220 t lump in his and it was ****e but worked.

id stick with it do the small eletrical mods and drive very gently.it will be fine.If ya beat it it will bite you...

you have been warned. 2500rpm max....

bloody hell BoB you feelin ok, that is, dare a say it, a sensible answer and ya didn't tell him to burn it:eek::eek:

:welcome2: to the loony zone

If its just for getting about in over the winter then you have bought the best landy for the job. Unfortunately you bought the wrong engine, in fact the worst engine ever put in a landy.

Yu realise this is the first time, someone has actually sed they done it, on this forum?
Yu got pics, BoB - or any other info? build standard or summat?

..aaah so you see my logic in the V8 then howgaydo...

prehaps we could sway you nigel8 s way and u buy a gary glitter to start with....:D:D

I don't see any logic in having a 4x4 that runs on petrol.
V8:crazy:

Got to be a diesel everytime.
My next landy will be a 110, just scared of getting it stolen as I don't have a driveway and sometimes have to park a few streets away.

i am amazed yu aint read this before... Fitting a 220 turbo lump into a gay...freelander is the most recommended mod - but, to my knowledge, i have never heard of anyone doing it. So anything you can find out as to what is/was required, would be very useful.

maybe a "how to"????
