Currently in the middle of a defender rebuild. I put one of the front stub axles on today, and the hub and wheel etc. Whats really odd is that the wheel wont rotate all the way to lock stops in either direction?
I think I know what the problem is, but ive no idea why? if anybody could shed any light or ideas im all ears
When I tried the bolts which attach the stub axle to the swivel housing, they appear as though they are too long, and when the swivel housing rotates around the swivel ball the bolts actually make contact with the ball restricing the steering lock. Now the bolts are M10 x 25mm 10.9 BZP bolts as per original equipment. Id guess that if the bolts were 5mm shorter they wouldnt protrude inside the swivel housing. I dont have a washer as non is listed on the parts catalogue, and it would have to be a huge one to make a difference!
Some pics showing how much steering lock I have. Shows that the wheel gets nowhere near the lock stop or the radius arm :blub:
