what happens when the immobilisor is on?

hi can anyone tell me how a 1996 disco should behave if immobilised -obviously it wont start but does the starter motor still turn when you turn the ignition key? mine wont start and absolutely nothing happens when i turn the key - the dash lights dont even dim- help

If the red light is still flashing aswell as the symptoms you describe then it is immobiliser. If the red light has extinguished itself then test the ignition feed to the starter. Check also that all the connections are tight and clean. If all of these are ok then the chances are your starter is goosed.

the red light may also stay on permanently rather than flash if it is the immobiliser at fault.

cheers ratty, ive had a look and it was the starter motor fuse! problem solved! all for just 40p
