Hello,

I've always wondered, when people "upgrade" their series petrol or diesel engines for 200/300 tdi or whatever. What happens to the old engines...if you swapped yours what did you do with it? Are they cheap second hand?

They end up on ebay, or they get scrapped, or are still sat in someones workshop/yard.

I was watching a few on ebay and the went for nearly £200 :scratching_chin:

Yeah well I've got the old 2.5 na lying in the shed don't know what to do with it, it came as a non runner and don't think I can be bothered to try it, may strip it and check or scrap it.

my 2.25 petrol been left out for 2 years pity as it was really good only changed it for better economy will have to strip it down and check for water damage incase petrol prices come back down. (joke)

i haven't weighed any engine in yet, only had landys three years and have found homes for at least four engines including one that was completely dismantled with a rain rusted crank

but i am prepared to let them go to others for scrap value rather than thinking they're worth a fortune

I dunno yet...however for my next project I might buy something that someone has butchered into a monster with 200tdi or whatever and put it back to nearer original...they seem to go cheap 2nd hand...just a thought. I'm also tempted to build up an engine out of car and replace rather than do up the one in place. Not sure yet as the one in there runs lovely and has good and equal compression on all cylinders....
