thickish one ? if so goes to ignition switch position 1 feed ,white been position 2

White with orange tracer could be supply from ignition switch to blower motor fuse - well it is on a 96 90

Nope it's not too thick thick - it's got a spade terminal on the end

a quick google search indicates a sign controlled air con cable
I cam across that too, don't have air con on my 90 tho.

Blower seems to working with out.

wouldnt white orange be there even if it does or doesnt have air con? just un used?....

td5 use white orange for fuel low level light.
Possibly - I'll try the meter on it tomorrow and see what I can find. My low fuel light doesn't work so could be that

White/orange is meant for the 'accessory' position on the ignition switch, while plain white is for the 'ignition' position. They're separate so you can have e.g the radio on without having petrol ignition circuits or the dashboard gauges powered. On a petrol, position 1 should be white/orange live, position 2 white/orange and plain white live. On mine (19J diesel) they're linked together somewhere according to the wiring diagram, so with the key on you get 12V at both white and white/orange.
