What dizzy is this?

Hi there, I have a 2-1/4 petrol series 3, I have just purchased an electronic points kit and went to fit it but does not fit, I have followed instruction but the holes do not line up so don't think I have the 45d , I have attached a pic of my dizzy any idea what one it could be and would I be able to do a stright swap for a electronic 45d on a well known site? Cheers

Oooo doesn't look like a 45d or 35d to me so I assume its a Ducellier.

Swop it for a 45d from someone like simonbbc or similar. I bought one from there with the Lucas gold coil and it was good. Swapping the dizzy is not hard as they only fit in one orientation on a 2.25 Just don't turn the engine whilst you do it and be careful with the firing order. Time a leccy distributor with a strobe using the marks above the crank pulley wheel. You want to start with the vac off idling as low as you can go at about 6 deg BTDC. See how it runs and adjust. You can't static time a leccy dizzy as far as i am aware.
 
Yes, the electronic equivalent dizzy will drop in. A few folks on this side of the pond have fitted them - solves a lot of problems getting rid of worn shafts and bushings and getting the electronics as well.

I've never seen the thing you have either - and I've seen ducellier distributors. That is not a Ducellier I believe..not sure what it is. Where do you get ignition parts for it?

When you pull it to replace, do have a look at the outside for casting marks and tell us what it is.

Not one I've seen before. I'm not exactly with the others on the replacement ones though. The one I got had weights that weren't heavy enough and therefore a hopeless advance curve meaning either lots of pinking or no power. (I checked the advance curve by drawing an advance vs RPM graph and it was just wrong, too much advance at low revs too little at higher revs).

In the end I got hold of a new old stock Lucas 45D and it was so much better and more fuel efficient. I've tried both electronic, cheapo and genuine points. There's not much to choose between good points and the electronic ones other than not needing to adjust them, the electronic ones do seem to cause the odd misfire at idle whereas the real points are rock steady, the cheap ones are crap and need constant faffing to keep them running nice. At the moment I'm on electronic but that was to confirm that the low rpm misfire was down to them, at some point I'll go back to the nice blue genuine ones.

fitted a simons leccy one to a 2.25p 25d, runs better than it has for years (as he's crap at changing the points) thing fires first time, no misfires..runs great.. been on about 6 months now.
