What did you do with your Range Rover today

Sailed through MOT today. ABS working as it should at last.

Three weeks down the line and: -

Positive

1/. Complete interior removed, jet washed, scrubbed and polished.
2/. Puncture in front passenger footwell repaired and sealed.
3/. Transmission Bowden cable removed, trimmed, (outer sheath damaged), and reconnected.
4/. Stereo Head Unit and CD Multi stack disassembled and serviced.
5/. Stripped 'spare' XYZ Switch to create test procedure at later date.
6/. Replaced perished handbrake gaitor with new leather one.
7/. Purchased cheap replacement Upper Tail Gate.
8/. Repaired multitude of chewed cables!
9/. Entered security code from foil label, (found behind dash), and Stereo and CD now working fine!
10/. Drove truck around garden and it even changes into low ratio!
11/. Charged battery.
12/. Located cause of random auto central locking cycle - front passenger door switch.

Negative

1/. Two rust holes found in spare wheel well, (hidden by 2 inches of 'off roading' mud).
2/. Still need to align XYZ Switch once I have truck on ramps, (slightly out of sync).
3/. Need to remove old green Tail Gate and replace with temporary blue one!
4/. Suspension now on bump stops - will need to use my new EAS Diagnostic kit after reading owners manual first.
5/. Also have Air Comp rebuild kit if required - probably won't be that simple!
6/. Will be reading 'Wammer's Guide'!
7/. Suspect HIVAC faulty, (no blower fan and display dark - bulbs), will need to read owners manual first.
8/. I have yet to road test it to see if it actually drives!
9/. At least I can listen to my music as I drive it to the breakers yard - worse case scenario!

Currently stripping out rear tailgate innards ready for deep clean, spare wheel floor repair and Upper Tail Gate replacement this weekend.

Also need to order high pressure power steering line for my Grand Cherokee and a Master Cylinder for my Suzuki GT750.

And then I wonder why I have no spare time or money!!

Started up ok today after 3 weeks (no porta pack needed), replaced the engine pulley belt and topped up the air con.

1/. Popped over to Norfolk to pick up cheap tailgate!
2/. Continued to service each door lock mechanism and switches, (door cards removed and jet washed), and currently drying!
3/. Stripped door handle/catch mechanism in attempt to restore smooth operation - not too successful to date!
4/. Made a professional repair to 'heath robinson' passenger door lock wiring in order to resolve 'auto central locking' and 'cycling central locking).
5/. As if removal of door locks are not difficult enough decided to remove and strip main fuse box, (engine bay), after reading several horror stories re corrosion and burnt connections - especially so as I have no blowers!
6/. Hoping to get replacement tailgate on at some point during the weekend!

Visited Grantham today. P38s everywhere!

I like Grantham, stop there on the way back from seeing my son in Ipswich, yes I know it's off route but I take the tin tent and have a wander around the country.

I have run to Grantham on a few occasions, (marathon training), following the old canal through the picturesque 'Vale of Belvoir'. Trouble is that Grantham is a major A52 bottleneck, (especially on Market Day), although I believe that they have received permission to build half of a bypass - from the north side of the town down to the A1 but no mention of the south side?

Rebuilt fuse box and reinstalled into vehicle and powered up with no problems whatsoever.

Did attempt to refit door cards but will need to read up on process as I can't see how you reuse the existing retaining clips without breaking them, (they are almost impossible to pull out of the door)!

Also noted that the amplifier in the rear near side door is U/S so swapped with another module in order to check wiring and speakers - all ok so module faulty.

Stripped module and noted that it uses a Toshiba TA8221AH two channel amplifier with some preamp and logic circuitry?

Checked for 'on board' protection, (diode, pico fuse, etc), but nothing obvious so checked for dry joints around coil and Power IC but none noted - but re-soldered all connections anyway!

Will check Mute and Power On logic rails tomorrow to see if it is this or the chip itself.

Nothing wrong with Grantham, I live here, Lol, my Range Rover stayed at home while we went to town shopping in the company 4x4, worry free parking, no car park dings and dents and scratches to worry about.

Took the CD changer to bits found the magazine was damaged freed it all of and replaced with a spare magazine. All good! I think we can blame the PO's poor music taste here.

Replaced the vacuum hoses on the cruise control system. Let's see if it works in the next run out!

Edit to this, the cruise works at least as well as the my old one. Are they generally a bit poor at keeping to speed? It seems to hunt a couple of mph around the target speed.

Refitted the tank with the new pump and fuel line. Switched on and the return leaked, it was corroded where the pipe is clamped to the body. Did a cut and shut repair and all good. Start's straight away then dies,the bastard.Lost interest for today, showered and having a drink.

Bit the bullet and used snipe nose pliers to remove door card retaining pins from door, (I broke one but managed to get all the rest out without any further mishaps).

I can't replace front driver card until I have serviced the lock, (as I did with the passenger side yesterday), and can't replace both rear cards as I am repairing one of the door amplifiers!

Removed old, (green), upper tailgate and replaced with slightly better condition BLUE one, (not through choice but just as a cheap temporary repair as the rear screen smashed in the original tailgate).

Removed rubber seal and thoroughly cleaned all of the bodywork at rear of vehicle and cleaned seal and retaining struts.

Didn't have time for anything else as I needed to get out for a run this afternoon.

So happy got rocker covers back on plenum on and all back together pumped up a flat tyre poured a gallon of petrol in and drove her up and down the driveway. Now I just need to get an mot booked ax her and enjoy again

Tried to find a full service kit and front brake pads for less than my first born and the wife
Also trying to work out what gearbox is in my l322 automatic 2003 diesel ?

Work on the RR has been temporarily curtailed as my wife was admitted to hospital last Monday.

I did manage to fit 3 door cards, (just leaving the drivers door as I need to 'service' the door lock and repair/replace the door amp), and refit the lower taigate trim, (jet washing the carpet)!

Hoping to strip wiper assembly, stop light and trim, (from old tailgate), and install on replacement tailgate, (which doesn't look too bad despite being blue and the rest of the car being green)!

The list is diminishing and the major jobs remaining are: -

1/. Hole in boot requires repair.
2/. Leak into boot area - possible sunroof seal as it appears to be coming from raised floor panel behind rear seats?
3/. Headlining requires recovering, (already sorted upper trim panels), will allow me to examine/remove sunroof assembly.
4/. No apparent heating/cooling and no blowers, (HIVAC, motors, etc)?
5). Examine wheel nuts to see if any are security type - I have no key!

Hoping to put her on the road next week as a treat for wife as she keeps chafing me for a test ride, (even if it is only a one way journey to the local breakers yard), the truck not the wife!

Sounds like you have been busy!. Sorted service kit for L322 so oil and filter changes next week. Still looking to sort rear washer and mirror adjustment.. Done 1000 miles in last few weeks !

I have turned it round in the garden so that has to be a posive start - about 50 to 75 metres in total!

Well, got my airbags replaced, as safe to say the fronts were utterly gone. The drivers side had a split in and the passenger one, well, I'll let the picture do the talking. Looked at them and they are the originals, stamped 98 (front) and 99 (rear) Not bad for 18yrs and 167k!


Today I fitted the nudge bar I picked up last week. £15 Going to change the lights as they are rusted to hell on the inside. Trying to find a wiring harness but the genuine one doesn't seem to be available anymore. Looks pretty good I think

Changed pollen filters and air filter. Also looked at my noisy compressor, turned out that the wrong washer was fitted to the rear mount causing it to vibrate through the mounting bolt. Changed for a more appropriate washer and much quieter!
