What did you do with your Range Rover today

I totally agree, I would love to get to work some other way. But can't get the bus, taxi would cost a fortune, couldn't pick my 3yo up from nursery on my way home with a motor bike or push bike and during the summer working 7.30am till 11pm ish to walk or push bike both ends of the day would kill me. Keep trying to convince my wife to move to that side of town but she wont. So I am stuck driving :(

Must be a generation difference. Back in my day walking 5 miles was a pleasant stroll. Kids today consider 500 yards too far to walk and must drive it. :p

The are at the bottom of the centre console.

If you're in trouble you'll get a lovely picture of a cheque book with an exclamation mark near it in the bottom right of the screen. Most common reason is blend motors. T'is a massive ballache of a job, I've got mine to do, but don't have time to strip out the dash to do it.

Dash takes about an hour to get out. Little longer to put back.

So for a chump like me, about a day. These things are all on hold until I take a week off next month to do all of the bits and bobs that need doing but will render my car inoperable. Such as the heated seats, fixing front bumper, replace steering damper, touching up paint work, etc.

I agree, would rather walk somewhere than drive but there are times and situation's where there is no other way.

Yes, I saw you've got kiddywinks, they usually won't walk 5 miles. The time of your shifts is no excuse though, when I was unlucky enough to pull daft shift work I still walked it. Wasn't so bad in the summer as there was some sun light, but in winter I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark.

But I'd recommend a petrol for town driving. Derv engines aren't efficent when driven around town and the DPF causes a lot of harm to the lungs. Although coughing up chunks of soot pre-DPF days looked grim, at least you coughed it all up. The DPF makes the soot so small it is hard to see, but also hard to cough back up when you breath it in.

No Particle Filters on the P38....

Although yes the DERV will be less efficent than on a run, it will still be more economical than a petty in town!

Of course, they have silly cats that don't work. I blame being tired :p

Petrol for around town driving. Dirty diesel for motorways.

Diesel Manual is the speck. Going to have a V8 classic and one petrol is enough for me. I am expecting crap MPG through town. My Focus does up to 45mpg at 70mph on the motorway, 38mpg at 90 for a long trip but only getting 27mpg to work. Would expect 18-22 town and 26-32 distance from a P38.

That's about what I get from my auto. Auto is better for town work IMO and for towing as there is bugger all power below 2K rpm which means lots of clutch slip when towing with the manual.
Check out the airsprings before you buy, they will almost certainly need replacing and it makes a good bargaining point:D

So what mpg would a manual be getting then?

I know autos are better for town and towing, but I don't like driving them. Got a auto shogun at work for towing and driven many over the last few years and just prefer manuals.

Depends how you drive, if you use the auto gear stick to hold 3rd on a speed limited climb, the torque convertor will lock and so it's more economical than letting the box decide to use 4th. I also use 3rd and sometimes 2nd for engine braking which also saves fuel as it keeps the overrun fuel cut off active.
I don't think from what I've read on here that the manual is more than 1 or 2 mpg more economical and the one I tried needed an hydraulic left leg for the clutch.
We have 3 manual gearbox cars but wife and I both prefer the auto for the autoroute or for town work. Once you get used to it there is no going back IMO.:D

Took the old girl for tracking today after fitting a new trackrod assembly a few days ago - I adjusted the rod by eye to the old one - to my amazement the tracking was pretty much spot-on. Hardly any adjustment required!

Decided to underseal it....what a mess that is
Fitted a tv to rear of centre console.
Now got to get to the bottom of noise developing from rear - maybe wheel bearing or rear diff?
Why is it everytime i treat it to something it throws a problem at me

Realise they must've changed the derv to summer fuel. I've only got one day left of driving before I top up again and it seems I've only just gone over 1/4 of a tank. Usually I'm at about half a tank by now. My driving habit has stayed the same, so either some serious witch craft or at long last good fuel is flowing again.

Either way, happy days.

Shouted at some daft twit who thought it would be good to use a stone dusc cutter right by my beast. It's now friggin grey, not black!

Knew there was a great reason not to go back to work. :D:D

But, need the money. Swmbo wants a Tucson.:eek:
