What did you do with your Range Rover today

Repeatedly tried to shut tailgate - failed. Looked for reason for O/S droop - failed. Sprayed with bleach & detergent to combat creeping algae - completed

Took her for MoT. Sailed through it :) Got underneath and had a look whilst she was up on ramp. She's doing not bad at all for her age. I am holding my joy in check, because around now, when all is smiley, the brown stuff usually hits the fan ;)

Today I rebuilt my engine well almost. Got as far as the belt tensioner and as I tightened the damper bolt the bracket broke:mad: I'm sure I could have been heard within a 50 mile radius. As you can see from the photo's there was a pre-existing problem, it had been weakened at some time in the past. This is the first time its had a spanner on it since I bought it in 2005 and it had been " looked after" by Stealers before that so draw your own conclusions. Where's @stustrong and his friendly breakers or @Grrrrrr 's shed when you need them.

The belt tensioner can be taken apart and made better by putting lube in, they tend to get stuck by being stiff after a while, I know cuz my mechanic did it on mine

Got as far as getting the sump bolts loosened off, to take the front chain cover off, chains tensioners etc.. Apart from the four coming in from the bell housing.. now I have two solid seized rounded pegs where bolts used to be. I'm assuming these havent been off since 1997.... and after two hours today.. they can ****ing stay there another 20 years.. !!!

Had to replace mine earlier this year. Mine went across the part where it pivots. @Rick-the-Pick reckons they're a weak part as he went through 3 of them in 12 years. He's welded something up on his now, I think.

I actually got to drive it for once , and now won't be driving it for a while as it was to go and have a cornea transplant in right eye so that's me off work and unable to do anything for a few months, you just know the p38 will throw a wobbler now.

Took her for a drive to Dumbarton and realised that I'm not imagining the serious vibration through the steering wheel since the alloys were done. Anyone know if they take the little balance things off when they powder coat?

Yea they will, your going to have to get it done again
Thanks Dopey. They could at least tell clients that they do that. Between getting the time of collection wrong, thus screwing up my schedule for two days, putting the wheels on wrong axles( and saying they 'wouldn't charge me' to put them back to correct axles!), which screwed up yet another afternoon, and not informing that balance will be off, I am seriously unimpressed by them.

Also if they've done any repairs to the metal ie ground out knocks and chips and the tyres have not been put back in exactly the same spots, then the balance would be out. even if they had left the weights on

My son has a Type R he had his wheels done, I picked it up for him, there were runs on the fresh painted rims... I told them to do the bloody lot of them again, and be back tomorrow to pick it up, they said nothing, went back they were perfect, no apology at all
