You can’t prove it was me! o_O:p:D
I admit nothing.

It’s one bit of spill you’ll not need to change ever again and the one you took off will fit FIP-inj1 ;).
works gooderer IMO
You can paint it whatever colour you want, even red....my god that red is bright, is it dayglow??:p:):D

It was clear the bit I took off, that's standard code 601, Rioja red maybe it's cleaner than the rest. Thanks again Jack,I saw your car passed the MOT but if you want the proper battery clamp so you can fit a battery cover just say,if I can find it again after sorting the garage.:rolleyes:;)

Update time. I think I am going to end up breaking to be honest. I don't recall if it was here who helped me back earlier in the slightly less colder months of April and May when I had to break into my car because the driver's door latch had locked shut? Anyway, when my son and I went to open the car the door opened not a problem. It was when we went to shut it moments later the door wouldn't shut. The latch had locked, completely locked. So I pulled it out and pulled it apart to try and fix it. 3 hours later the car is parked up as close as I can get it to a wall along its righthand side with the door pulled tightly closed so if it rains, it's sunny now but, Scotland. So have I managed to get the HT leads checked? Nope. We were going to do that but my son is about as useful as a first-year apprentice when it comes to working on cars (a back story I won't divulge if asked) so I needed to do it but my body has given up for today so it will have to wait. A shame because my wife was going to meet her son and his missus on Saturday.
So where am I at with the car right now;
  1. Likely stuffed coil packs - need to find out how to test them
  2. Probable knackered HT leads, after all it is quite hot back there
  3. Need a door lock
That's all on top of an already long and extensive list of things needing done. At what point do I say I've had enough; no idea. I have already spent a fortune on it (which is a recurring theme for, from what I gather, most P38 owners) and see a likely further fortune on not only buying one without known problems but then finding a ton of problems that need to be fixed: all on a driveway. Right now this ain't fun. The upside to that is at least I'd have a donor car but it is on the driveway hahaha
Anyway, if the lads at Gallipoli could face and for some, get through that hell then I can get through this, 1st world problems, hell.
One good thing is it is fish & chips night, so happy days.
Cheers lads & ladettes

Probably time for a week off and then reassess with fresh eyes.

In 50 years I don't think I have seen HT leads go bad however I suppose there is a first time. I don't think you can test the coil packs off the car. Are you not getting spark at the plugs?(apologies if stated earlier). There could be many reasons for no spark. You really need an LR specific code reader to work on these beasts.

Seen it on a few cars. Quite impressive in the dark. Didn't stop the car running but it was missing and down on power

Help needed. does anyone know how to open the bonnet when one of the catches is not releasing, passenger side opens ok, drivers side is still latched and there is slack in the cable at the handle in the cabin.:(

Definitely taking the weekend off. Plenty of motorsports and football to keep busy there.

I've worked on plenty of Ford's in Australia that say otherwise. As Grrrrr says in the dark it can be quite a show. Most start with the tiniest crack in the outter skin and grows from there. I will have to leave it for next week to see if there are any signs. It doesn't help with the coil packs being where they are.

I am getting very faint spark at the plugs so again as Grrrrrr said it's enough for it to be down in power and acting as if there is a misfire. Ao checking the leads will hopefully show the problem is either there ir the coil packs. I have no idea how to test them. It was never my remit. I just took old things off and put new things on and occasionally said ugg. :D

If you can get to the cables on the release handle and pull them with pliers or something while someone wiggles the bonnet, should come.
Make sure you clean it up/grease/check it before you shut it

It all went to bits in the roll. They flagged me when I gave it to the Indy to check (several years ago) as ‘battery not secure’ so I strapped it down and they said okay. The tray with the ECM box is in one piece and I have a bent threaded rod sticking up behind it but that’s it. Presume there’s the bracket then the plastic cover bolts to that? No idea what bolts where

I have taken the kick panel off and got too the cables and one feels like it has come disconnected from the latch:(
Got no photos on this phone to check not had intercooler out for some time. Do you think maybe you could reach the latch if you take grille out? Cannot remember if there is room poke something in there and depends which side catch as cable runs through somewhere there

That threaded bent rod has a nut and a lock nut to hold the bracket near the ECU box,a bolt holds the front of the bracket as shown in the photo I posted of my new battery.;)

Well that was fun crouched in front with a flat gemmy being pushed up by your shoulder to give two hands free for torch and spanner I have done it, have done a search and thanks to sailbury nick's post on how to waste an hour:D
Now all I have to do is sort the latch or cable but that will have to wait as I am of playing with steam traction engines for the weekend there may well be a pub run and lots of cider involved:D

I have a real cable oiler if you need it

30+ years biking I've seen it a few times. Including the time I thought I knew which cylinder was missing on the Guzzi so pulled the plug lead off while stood at the lights in the rain. Wrong lead. Good fat spark tracking through my wet waterproofs for a few strokes, until the duff one missed and the bike finally died...
And the Jap 4 which was tracing out from the base of the coil, discovered after starting it when everything there had been cleaned by the owner. Flames! Should've asking him how long ago he'd covered them with solvent....
