Use a proper period colour - I love Limestone myself, really looks good on a Series and different to the usual green & blue.
This is the picture that inspired me to get a Series...

And yes nato green
depends on what patina he wants
spraying is more effort but ultimately a better job
i like the sand colour too but i'd still go with green

I like Marine Blue and Nato Green with Limestone Side Panels and Roof. I also like Poppy Red. SO HARD TO DECIDE!!!
