So..
on my never ending quest to fix the Disco and get it through a proper MOT, so its ready to be sold... (thank God I've fininshed the welding!),

today I decided to tackle why the gear lever wasnt spring back to the centre and why the reverse lights were always on.. (for those who know about it, yes they are my rear working lights..lol)

Anywhoooo.... after taking all the stuff from top of it, I had this beautifull sight!

Just a tad muddy... lol

So the question... all those bolts that hold the spring, can I take them all off without running the risk of being hit by something on my forehead?

also, on the first pic, that connector is the reverse light switch right?
i figure it is as its connected to a little piston, which is pushed by the gear lever when it goes into reverse, of course it doesnt work as its caked in mud..

:D

thanks !

Hi JP, yes and yes !!!

The springs are quite strong but it looks like the plate is intact. If I were you I would fit another bias plate (£4 from LR dealer) and new springs are about £1 apiece.

The switch in the first pic is the reverse light switch - only a fiver so maybe worth just replacing.

A word of warning they are a ****er to replace see a thread where i describe how i did it you are half way there though having stripped every thing out already

is that a thread I read about cuting holes on the floor and stuff?

gearboxs on the 200 tdi and the 300tdi are different, if yours is a 300, i believe the switch is situated on the left of the gearbox and therefore, probably awkward to get to..
as you see on my pic, the switch is easily accesible and that whole cover can be taken out, with the switch attached to it...

or is it a completly different thread?

You're right mate, 200 reverse light switches are a piece of **** to replace and you're already half way there, think mine cost me £3 from me local 4x4 bloke.

All you need is a mirror stood behind the car so you can adjust it right. (easier than having your doris stood back there moaning that you ain't doin' it right:rolleyes:).

yeh...last time i asked her to check if the indicators were working she said:

"now they do, now they dont - now they do, now they dont.."

Hahahahaha!!!
