On a Disco 1, if you open the bonnet, stand in front of the bumper and look at the top of the back of the engine compartment you will see, going from left to right, a strip of black foam filters which presumably keep things like insects/sheep/cattle out of the inlet for the cabin heater.

I decided to clean them today (for the first time) and they all fell to pieces before I even got them removed! They must have been soooooo old.

Anyway, I've been searching on eBay, but don't know what to search for and as a result i can't find 'em!

Any advice??

I got a single sheet of aquarium filter from a aquatic shop enough to do 3 discos for £2.40 and just cut it into the same strips.. There's three density grades you want the lightest so as to allow air to pass through.

No pollen filters in a D1 or 2.

They are not called pollen filters or plenum filters.
I would check the work shop manual but they might not use the same description as what Land Rover might.
Just make your own from some sponge or similar or don't bother with any thing.

OK, so plenum air intake filter it is... it costs about £6 excluding postage, so I think i'll pop into my local pet shop (assuming there is one!) to compare prices.

Thanks again for the help, people!

I had the same problem on my disco 2 and used a pack of cooker hood filters from Wickes that contains the charcoal filter sheet. Cut into the correct sections it works well and looks good (as is black) and plenty more for the future!! ps: use the paper filter in your kitchen hood and er' indoors thinks you are wonderful......really on the ball with these things!

Good idea discool.....:D

I replaced mine by foam rubber packing in QVC orders.
If you know someone who buys from QVC all their parcels have foam packing in 1inch square by 6 inch long sections. Fits perfectly.
