Plasma spray bore :D:D:D
I have discussed this with the leaders in this technology and they are willing to coat my cylinders but the problem I have is this engine is damaged and needs liners or boring out significantly and as it is Alusil I could just rehone it , that is simplifying it massively, I could make some steel or titanium liners for strength but I’m not sure if they would coat. The idea initially was to repair this block without breaking the bank by keeping standard pistons and also not to try and make too much power and toasting my transmission if I sneak a little supercharger in there.
I’ll have to keep an eye out for the scrap metal transits with their greedy boards fitted if they start circling above the soon to be carcase :)

Simple was is sometimes the best way?

What power are you looking to get out of this motor once done?

400hp?

I wasn't really looking to get loads of power, i was more interested in salvaging what is a good engine in general but has some terminal flaws.
i would like to get it back to somewhere near a new and reliable engine with maybe a little extra something.
I think the stock components with a mild supercharge would see around 350 - 380 but still be usable as an off road vehicle without killing me or the transmission.
I think if you are going to go all out on one of these engines then you need to be looking at over 500 bhp to make it interesting but then you will be looking at an alternative transmission brakes and handling so you may as well just buy a 5.0 SC.
Now a 1000 bhp..............

Any progress on the cylinder liners?

That post was from 2018 mate so I would imagine some progress

Thanks, I know, I search all of his threads to find an update and I couldn’t. It’s a spare engine of his and like it, mine is in need of cylinder sleeves. I was wondering if there was any info on this process ??

Yes the bores are machined and new liners pressed in, only issue is the M62 has very little meat between each pot so cracking of the cylinder wall can occur, especially if the bore isn't machined correctly..

I've had an M62 sleeved.
