Still only got front wheel drive as the VCU has gone on my Freelander and the garage is waiting for a new one to be delivered, While coming down a country lane it started to pick up speed, i dropped it down a gear but brought the clutch up too fast and stalled, Lost breaks and steering became very heavy, started to slide and basically bob-sled down the hill and ended up like wedged sideways. As i only had front wheel drive i didn't have the traction to drive up the banks to get out. I tried to walk up the hill to warn other cars but it was too icy, called 999 to report the road as potentially dangerous and then set about some kind of strange Austin Powers forward and backward 3 point turn attempt which just made things worse.

i started going through my phone book to see who could help, I didn't want to get stuck there too long in case another car came down the same lane and hit me. Fortunately a Defender 90 came along and spotted my rather stranded hippo and saved the day. I offered him some cash to say thanks but he said he was happy to help. So a big thankyou to him

fender on the shopping list now then?? :)

Nope, Nothing, a few small scratches on the front bumper but as it's plastic the scuffs will go with some back to black bumper (if i ever bother with it), I was amazed as i was sure something would be broken, smashed or bent, But there was nothing, i just drove it for 30 minutes to work with no problems.

You've made his xmas by letting him recover a stranded hippo:rolleyes: ... top mark's on getting stuck though:D

dint you try using HDC ? works better than engine braking as it works on all 4 wheels whether you have VCU in situ or not. not sure if it works with stalled engine though.

Dont have it on mine, I avoided it, just another thing to break.

No, mine doesn't have it either because I don't have ABS.
Who are these 3 Amigos everyones complaining about?;)

Yup, No ABS for me either, The more electrical crap you have on a freelander the more there is to break and go wrong. Its recommended that you go for the more basic models if you dont want to be spending a fortune on repairs.
