the d3 and range rover sport have the same chassis and running gear , buts it’s the air suspension that makes discoveries nice to drive and very quiet

was going to buy a D2 first but alas couldn’t find one with a decent chassis m know there around, i just could find a decent one for sale, also looked at the L322 rangie but ins was through the roof

may i ask if u don’t mind out of curiosity, what jobs do u think the body needs to come off for, ust get rid of some of the myths and will be honest if it does or not for certain jobs

mines an auto and personally prefer the auto

So you find the chassis are any better for not rotting to sh*t like the d2's?
Ah right if i recall d3 has air suspension on the front as well? So I take it it's a nice ride, but they don't have ACE do they? So guessing handling isn't quite as good..
Top of my head turbo change, not that I can remember I was just talking with a friend about them a couple months back.
Honestly though don't think I could afford a d3 right now though

considerably, only issues that are coming up is a very small amount of rust if side steps are fitted ,acts as a water trap

out of the 1,000 s of members on the D3 forum not one person has any rust in there entire chassis

doesnt have ace but has DSC, dynamic stability control and electronics that control the air suspension on all 4 x wheels , that i controlled by 3 x electronic valve blocks , so it helps as u corner and prevents the roll, unless u really give it some stick because of the high centre of gravity , but doesn’t wallow

hopefully a member who’s had a D2 and D3 can give u more details how they compare

turbo, rear cam belts , front cam belts can all be done with the body on

this is a pic of chassis , if u haven’t seen one before , other pics is my disco

FFS @gstuart dont let him near yours it will come back looooookin like your avitar thingy !:rolleyes::p
Let me just start by saying... F*CK you! :p

And appreciate the info Stuart, they do look like quite the improvement if I say so myself, but again looking atleast 5k starting for something alright, and my balance doesn't allow that, trying to keep it under 3k :D
Mine does its fair share off road too, plus the dogs and mud.. you get the idea :p
But much appreciated

I've got a d2 and had the chance to drive a colleagues d3?? Its a 10 plate so not sure if d4. Difference was night and day. Obviously didn't give it loads round the bendy bits as wasn't mine but it handled less like a big top heavy 4x4 than a d2 does. If I had the tools, space, money, bravery, knowledge, diagnostics, four poster ramp id have one tomorrow ;)

thks , as i’ve never owned a D2 i couldn’t comment , but is my favourite landy so far and by christ it’s taken some work to get it where it is today and know i couldn’t have afforded it if it meant going into a garage

ps, not that’s it really important , i’m , Gary ;):D

When i worked on the line at solihull in 2014, the difference in amount of underseal on the d4 bodies (not chassis, never saw those) between UK/europe and NAS/ROW was quite stark. Id be very confident of not finding any substantial rust on a UK d3 or 4.
I worked on underbody, gearbox tunnel NVH pad and brake lines on L319, fuel vent hoses and fuel pump ecu range sport and same on ffrr but exhaust brackets as well :)

that’s interesting to know , i did use a hammer on my chassis and is absolutely solid throughout and not one of the 1,000 s of D3 and D4 owners haven’t reported any welding required so i can only take from that the chassis have indeed been well treated and used decent materials this time

as the RR sport and D3 are the same i would also assume chassis haven’t had any issues

only thing that some had was the sills , if side steps were fitted it caused a very small amount of rust as it seems to act like a water trap

was dreading removing the front inner wheel arch liners but found everything solid which cheered me up and also cleaned all those areas up and sprayed them with dinotrol

was a great shame as i simply couldn’t find a D2 when i was looking that didn’t have rust in the back chassis , wanted to buy one and fit a new chassis but simply didn’t have the facilities

Always going to happen with side steps isn't it. Mine need cutting off, the steel frames completely gone!
I was lucky to find Mine, looks like it's had regular treatments although it's overdue an good going over. My next job in the spring ;)
Good to see the rust issues LR have had historically seem to be gone. Still work for JLR so bit of pride there haha.

Sorry @Weldy hijacked your thread!!

Howdy doo.

Sorry if I've missed loads I will catch up on the gossip and replies .. I havnt been being ignorant I've Been on me jollies and wasn't allowed to take any technology with me:mad: Wor lass says it's a rule when we go away!

but I didn't know the prison service had the Same rules! Tried to smuggle my IPad with me but it was an epic fail.
A close friend of mine called Karl. ( hi Karl);)
Said if you want to sneak something in without getting caught you have to hide it in your body..
well I tried to get my I pad along with me (on holiday) descretley, but it just kept dropping out.. I tried jamming it in with wooden wedges but god knows where they vanished too..
so anyhoo..
unfortunately I am back. I will read through all posts and get up to date. Hope all is well and you didn't miss me too much.. I tried to bring yous all a stick of rock back but I had to hide that too as Wor lass is allergic to sugar. Every time she eats it, it makes her swell up all over her body.
I actually thought she was just getting fat. But I take her word for it.
I will wait for the rock to make an appearance and will post it out to anyone who wants it.
Speak soon
Weldy
