Welding sills disco 2

hi guys just making my pre mot list of jobs to do and one is the two holes one each side on both sills, sills do look flakey so I’m thinking of just replacing them, is it like a disco 1 where they can be chopped out and 100x50box section welded in place? Also when welding is it best to remove battery or leave in as a surge protector or unplug Ecu? Any help is welcome, I have until end of April to do it, list upto now isn’t bad with only slight leak on transfer box and rubber prop coupling looking perished. Cheers.

I disconnect the battery (live only) and remove the ECU when welding. Better safe than sorry.

Yes for the few seconds it takes to disconnect both is it worth the risk of not doing so? Although you should always disconnect the negative first never positive or ''live only". Negative should always be first to disconnect and last to reconnect to prevent any accidental arcing.

Good point on the negative. I have done some quite extensive welding on mine though with no ill effects. It’s always a bit of a fingers crossed moment though when it comes to firing it up and hoping all the electrickity bits are still working.

Good advice, thanks. Is it worth doing anything like unplug the bcu? Is it located under/ behind glove box? Or just remove battery and unplug ecu? I know about getting good clean and close to welding site with the Earth clamp.
