I've been lurking here for a number of months reading and learning from the wealth of experience that you have all shared.

I finally took the plunge and purchased a 1987 110 CSW that has been converted to 200TDi.

The Chassis on her is excellent, only one tiny patch of welding right at the very front. The rest of the body is fairly tired although she is reasonably dry inside.

The list of jobs I want/need to do is huge and daunting but includes (but is not limited to)

Repair/replace doors - need to buy a welder although I've only arc welded and not for about 30 years

Bulkhead will need replacing at some point - although I've seen much worse and it has been patched

The body work behind the sills is very rusty/non-existent on both sides at the front and probably is high on my list for replacement - although I have yet to work out exactly what it is I need to buy and how it comes apart.

Back axle is a drum brake one so I will be keeping my eyes open for a Defender or Disco one and have been reading all the stuff about different prop-shaft lengths and flanges

The only signs of oil escape are from around the sides of the sump and the cam cover so that's on the list of quick wins.

I've no idea when the cam-belt was last changed so another one that is high up the list.

Anyway, I've owned a Disco and a P38 Rangie and I finally feel that I've got a real Land Rover!!

Good choice of vehicle, Ninety/One-Ten are increasingly sought after. :)

Bodywork tends to be a bit tired after almost thirty years, wouldnt tart it up too much, just increases the chances of it being nicked! ;)
 
Hmmm not sure mine is a likely target for a thief - it's not in the "Urban Assault Vehicle" class more "Assaulted by hedgerows"

We have been assigned our first mission - have to drive to Heathrow T5 at 04:30 on Friday to collect Mother-in-law and her partner coming over from the states. It appears they are bringing a lot of luggage....which won't fit in our daily drives.

I must admit I'm somewhat intimidated by the prospect of Swindon - Heathrow in effectively an unknown vehicle.

I'm also not sure how they will take to 2 hours in a 30 year old Landy after 7.5 hours in steerage. :eek:

2 hours! :eek: They are slow, but not that slow. :D
