Tig is good if you have nice clean material, however for a older chassis its going to be a waste of time and you will spend more time sharpening your tungsten as it will be contaminated.

Argon co2 mix all the way with the mig, you will get good penetration and minimal spatter.
 
I work for a welding supply company in N Ireland and bought myself an Esab Caddy Mig 200i through work. It was the best money ever spent as it is able to weld mild and stainless steel, aluminium, mig braze and will run gasless mig wire the welder is fool proof. All you need to do is set what material your welding the thickness and away you go after that if you want to increase the wire feed speed the machine ups the power for you and vise versa. I repaired the bulkhead with .8mm wire no problem and its capable of welding up to 6mm plate.
