£12.50 or £13 can't remember what it was last time I supplied full bottles

ive got a full sized bottle of argoshield when its empty i take it back to the engineering firm and swap it foc. They have 50+ blokes work there and there gas is in very large tanks plumbed arround the factory, they have 12 bottles as stand by, well 11 now, i am very friendly with the owner and am on 24hr call for any of their break downs so they let me have the gas and a pick through their scrap bins. dead handy, ive built rock sliders, tree sliders front bumpers and allsorts and never bought steel yet.
I must say though as an electrical engineer i dont do much welding other than for myself and a smaller bottle would be much more portable but beggers cant be choosers can they

Well, I reckon that's the welding gas top trumps won:rolleyes::D

cheaper ones have mechanical gas valve v gas solenoid, on disposables your need deep pockets

the setup i have is an old sip migmate 130 turbo

its heavily modified to do the whole range of welding such as ive been inside it and uprated the settings board and added switches to use previously non conected coils on the transformers so i have ultra low settings capable of welding the likes of bean tins if nessecary and another setting that boosts the output to a stupid level so itll breeze through anything up to 12mm thick

hope this helps :D:D:D:D:D

Nice looking set up - I've got a sip migmate 150 and I might have a go at something similar - especially the co2 bottle.
I end up using 0.8mm wire all the time because my wire feed speed on the 0.6mm is too unreliable. It's got a plastic gearbox and I can't tighten up the adjuster enough to keep the wire speed constant.
Does yours suffer from the same problem or have you found a solution?
Thanks,
Roy

ive found a solution the problem was the spring tensioner between the feed wheels is as you said plastic so all i did was put a tight fitting block of wood under this to steady it and glue the fekker in place to stop the wood falling out

did it over 7 years ago and never had a problem with it since :D:D

The next time I'm in the workshop (I'm off on holiday tomorrow) I'll try and remember to photograph the dodge I tried on mine. I do most of my welding around mot time so perhaps I didn't persevere with it for long enough but it didn't make it right. Of course, it might be me that's the problem as much as the welder . . . !
Thanks,
Roy

Umm, I pay £12.50 for a refill.

You don't know how lucky you are up there, down here in the SW I have a few pub bottles and no one will fill them and have to pay £60 for a small bottle refill at the welders shop or it would be £200 to get a large one from air products

I bought a "Snap On" mig 130Amp from a mate for £70. Needs a regulator and gas bottle. I will sell it for £70, its what I paid.I was going to use it as my 165Amp mig is heavy to move around the garage but I dont think I am gonna use it tbh. Would need collected from Scottish Borders.
