Hi, my name is chris, I live in the Somerset area, I am a self employed welder/fabricator and I have a series 1 that I am going to restore, hopefully as near original as I can, it has the original petrol engine in it, it belonged to a friends mother and it was last on the road in 1971. I also own a 1996 Land Rover discovery 1 and a 4x4 1984 county ford transit,
I would like to build a 6 wheel drive land rover one day but it's working out the drive on the third axle that I haven't got around yet, my plan was to do a 2" lift and rework the chassis on disco 1 then use the disco 1 cab as is or as forward control, then build a camper with slide outs, I'm in Zambia until October but I would like to come back with the disc 300 tdi to do a tour, I picked the 300 because of no ECU ideal for Africa
I may have to build a new chassis for the S1 but not sure about chassis numbers and VOSA, is it legal for me to build a chassis and stamp my chassis number on it? I do have v5c & old log book for it, I haven't checked the chassis out properly yet, so it may be alright, I've just put Landy in the back of the workshop as I've had paid work to do & it's not a priority at the moment, but I was thinking about making a new chassis and getting it galvanised & powder coated, the only thing is, it's not original then, also front bumper's a bit bent so will probably make new one, also some one has asked me if would build them a new chassis galvanised & powder coated.
Lots to do!! Just need to make the time!!
