Hi there,

Have a TD4 Sport Auto. and noticed recently a weird noise. When coming to a standstill and just before coming to complete stop I hear a very soft click/knock. Also when pulling away from stand still, intermittently can hear the noise. Its sounds like it is coming from the front of the vehicle. I know at the moment I think I have movement in the pad and maybe a sticky caliper, but would this make the noise? Can it be something else, transmisson wise or a bush of some sort?

Any ideas welcome.

Cheers!

** hoping it does snow to have some fun!

all of the above.

also, as it is an auto, it has a select inhibit solenoid which gets noisier the older it gets.

put it in P, start the engine, handbrake on, no radio or fan or anything else that makes a noise.

now press the brake pedal, you should hear a quiet click, which you may also be able to feel through the gear shift. Is this the noise ? are there two unrelated noises ?

this is going to be really hard to diagnose without hearing it, but we'll do our best to help.

try the above, good luck.

hi there,

the noise is different. The noise when its in park is quiet loud and is evident. That has been the same since purchasing the vehicle. This only happens when the vehicle is at operating temp. Not when cold. But at the same time, when in a run expericence the suspect brake issue. I dont know if this noise happens when the gears are changing down and also when pulling away. At the same time, is it on the movement side of things. Very Weird. Maybe because its cold we get more noises.

DO they have an anti roll bar bush? Had similar issue with wifes brand new VW Polo a couple of years ago.

Hi there,

I have noticed, this noise only happens when vehicle warm and also round the same time when brakes start playing up. I recently changed the brake light switch, don't know if this could play a part. Only issue I am worried about the noise also happens when pulling away from standstill. On the movement on that initial pull away!

Your help will be much appreciated!

Cheers

Hope u guys are having fun in the snow!!!!

Will do as its getting on my nurves.

Driving in the snow today, the standard abs working as normal and TC as its really snowed bad here in London

The noise of the ABS when cutting in or TC is evident. Only issue I experienced today, was after say coming to a stand Still and then go to pull away gently, that rubbing/ABS noise was stilll evident. Like a loud rubbing noise. Is this normal. Sorry but my first 4 x4 and diesel . Can this be a diff issue?

SOrry for the stupid questions!

CHeers

sorry mate!

Working from the blackberry.

Have I missed something? Appreciate your help. You say its normal, but why does it do this? What is it exactly. I have come to a stand still, ABS cut in and should switch off right? As I have stopped. I know its not the TC as not pressed enough gas to cause a spin and TC light not on.

Sorry for the questions. Its first 4x4 and not sure.

Sorry if I have upset you

Cheers

Daft I is disappointed with yu. you know the proper response is to drive to his house and lend him your landy while you take his vehicle to a garage, have the fault diagnosed and then get it fixed before returning his vehicle. And can yu get a move on because he wants to go out and play in the snow..

Understood,

Just wanted to see if the characteristics I experienced today were normal. Thats all.

Cheers

ffs get some balls!
yu come on here saying yu have a known brake problem and what could be a "weird" noise - which could easily be the brake problem. Get that fixed and then see what happens to yo noise .

its like coming on her with known HGF and asking why yu are getting coolant loss .

Ok mate.

Known of the brake issue, but today was another characteristic which wanted to check if it was normal. I thought the forums had loads of these such questions and some may seem some what stupid to you or some not so but forums are there to discuss the experiences or issues good or bad people may be faced with. If someone has had same issue then they would advise the symptoms/characteristics and how it has been sorted. Correct? Let's leave it as that

I also have noticed that after the hill decent has been engaged/used..... the brakes still bind /grind slightly for a second after you turn it off , I assume this is due to pressure still in the brake lines holding the pistons in
Is this the same for the ABS?
And when your ABS/TC/HDC cut in it sounds like your discs are being attacked with a very big rasp.
Or is that just mine?

And the clicking sound from the front could be the pads moving as they contact the disc
try taking them apart and copper slip the pins and put a smear of grease on the back of the pads to keep them in contact with the pistons

Hi Edge.

Mine sounds the same. Thanks for the advice on the pad issue. Will do them as soon as the snow clears. Its like a clicking noise. Not always when I press the brakes but also on taking off from stand still.
