Hi guys, Never come accross aproblem like this one.

Defender 110. I have lost all the lights on the offside rear of the landy.
Checked fuses etc but cannot find anything.
Has anyone ever come accross this before and if so, does anyone know of a solution???
Why do these things always happen over a bank holiday or at the beginning of the weekend????
Land Rovers.....love/hate relationship....... bit like the wifey really.

Any help woulod be very much appreciated......with the landy....not the wifey ha

Check the bulb holder (they can get coroded and/or the metal contacts weaken), and of course the bulb itself.

If not that, check the wiring where it passes through the chassis for chaffing.

Re the fuse - they can have hairline cracks that you don't see - test it with a multimeter or swap a fuse over

Hi Station house,
Have replaced the fuses and checked the wiring as well.
I have LED lights fitted so no bulb holder to check for corosion.
UGH damned thing!!! Deep pockets and a weird sense of humour to be a landy owner.
Any one else got any ideas???

Frustarting - sorry no knowledge of LEDs - know they can cause issues with the indicator relay (something to do with the differing resitances), but tail lights normally pretty reliable I beleive

Hope you get it sorted

Before you pay the electrician switch the lights on and put the indicator stalk up to indicate right. Then remove the lenses from the rear indicator and tail light which as you say will be off. One of the three screws holding the lights on to the body will also be acting as an earth, you'll see the contact plate which makes it different to the other two, it's usually the one in the 8 o'clock position. Just start to loosen this screw and also do the same on the other light. If it's like mine was then doing this will make it start working. Regardless of whether it does or not give the body behind the light fixing a good wire brush and WD40 and put it back together. Hopefully this will show some signs of life and you'll know the problem.
Good luck. :)

loose connection behind lights, behind plate inside, coroded conections in bulkhead to chassis loom multi plug, cheap an nasty led lamp ****ed, broken wire in chassis loom, etc etc

Hi everyone, Maybe i didn't explain the problem very well.
Everything went out in one go on the offside rear.
indicator, stop light, tail light, fog lamp, brake light. Everything!!
Can't see that all the earth leads etc would go at the same time nor all the LED lights. It's like there is no power at all to the offside rear. It's got me beat, never come across this before. Surely there isn't a seperate power supply to each side of the rear lighting etc.
Hopefully someone out there will have had the same problem and found the cause.

There is only the one earth lead hence it being the obvious first port of call. If you tried fitting a temporary lead to test the theory it would only take you 5 mins and then you would know for definate..

Hi,
Im new to LandyZone so this is my fisrt message. I have a 1988, 90'. I have now got the same problem but on the nearside rear. I have spent the hole evening investigating, adding jump leads, belling all the sections i can get to on the loom. Everything i try points to a broken wire in the loom in the chassis. The landy hasnt moved between it working and now. Im really stuck and think the only thing to do now is remove the loom from the chassis and patch it up.

Hi, The problem has been solved. 2 things,
firstly, the main earth strap needed changing and secondly a new earth lead was run to the offside rear. This has now sorted everything out and all the lights are working again.
Thanks to everyone for their input on this.

try adding a new wire from the earth on one of the rear lights direct to the chassis.
