Weird brake problems.

During the current renovation of the rusty Disco, I have noticed that my front brake pads are wearing a little strangley.

On the outer, (or would it be upper?) edges of them, they have worn a lip into the pad face.

It almost looks like the discs are too small for the calipers.

Thing is, (and I'm no expert), would I be correct in thinking that many land Rover parts are inter-changable? Therefore I may have the correct discs fitted, but the wrong calipers? Or maybe the correct calipers fitted, but the wrong diameter discs?

The vehicle is a 1996 300TDI, non ABS model, and manual.

Do any of you chaps know the correct size discs for these? Or even the correct part number for the front calipers?

As seen as I haven't explained this very well, I will pop down to the garage on Monday and post some pictures of the strange pad wear situation. In the meantime, any info would be appriciated.

Cheers lads.

Disco calipers are know to wear, allowing the pad to move and judder or wear abnormally - dunno if that's your problem.

To be honest, I haven't noticed any reduction in the braking capacity, or any judder or long travel from the pedal.

The piston marks on the back of the pads 'looks' to be correct, (ie, in the middle), so I can only guess that the discs are the wrong size?

as Trewy sez (damn it) the calipers wear and allow the pads to slide towards the outer or inner part of the disk - this sounds like your problem. check them for wear.
