Dude the X3 is not a road car! Its not an off roader! Its one of those pointless plastic pretend off/on roaders! So women can pickup the kids from school and look down on everyone else while they are doing it! "Look at me and my X3/5! My husband has got more money than brain cells! And even though i have a BMW, I still cant drive for ****!"

Sorry about that! Had to get that outbust off my chest!

Alright all,

The Wayfarer Pass

Bryan & I rode a route over the Wayfarer Pass in July 2006, on a hot day which presented us with a downpour towards the end of the ride.

Wayfarer is a monument to WM Robinson, a regular contributor to "Cycling" around the 1920's and 30's. He encouraged many cyclists to cross these rough mountain roads which is how the "Rough Stuff Fellowship" was formed.

The route took us from Corwen, through Carrog over some tracks to Pandy then over the Wayfarer Pass. Details below. Apporoximately 30 miles, only to be attempted if you are reasonably fit and a good bike handler as there is a lot of climbing on rough tracks and some hairy descents.

On the approach to the monument.

From the car park in Corwen turn right and cross the River Dee to a T-junction, turn right on the B5437. Through Carrog where you take a left on the bend and onto to the next bridge (easily missed) to cross the river by turning right up to the small village of Glyndyfrdwy, over the Llangollen railway crossing to the A5.
Here turn left on the A5 for about 200 metres until you see a chapel, immediately after the chapel, turn right. with a sign saying unsuitable for Motors. This is a long steady climb up the side of a valley for about 3 miles until you get to the Ceriog Forest. Keep going straight on along the track, ignoring turn offs until you rejoin tarmac and reach a junction. Here you will see a cycle route sign, it was twisted when we found it and pointed over the field but it should point straight on along a gated road. At the last gate you will be at a junction with three possible directions. Take the middle one, at 1 o'clock for about 3/4 mile until you see the cycleway/bridleway sign on the right. Turn down it, a narrow muddy run down a track, to finish on a quiet lane.
Continue down the lane for a few metres and the cycleway is signposted left. Take this which is a very difficult descent and is a good test for your downhill skills. At the end, turn left onto a minor road to emerge at Pandy. Turn right on the B4500 to Llanarmon DC, a small village with two pubs (don't leave your bike unattended here, we had two nicked a couple of years ago). Turn right in Llanarmon DC, signposted to Rhiw. Now there is a continual climb and eventually the tarmac stops and you are riding on a track full of boulders.
You are now on the famous Wayfarers track across the Berwyn mountains. This pass reaches a height of 580m. This climb is Nant Rhyd William. At the summit is the Wayfarer monument, on the right hand side. Here you'll find a box to put your comments in. Now there is a long descent, keep right all the way and you will come to a tarmac surface. At the end, turn right through Cynwyd and then back to the start at Corwen.
OS map Bala and Lake Vyrnwy Landranger 125.

Can some one please mark on the map, just where Wayfarer starts and ends, or perhaps a better OS coordinate than SJ075435
