Good tip about pressure gun thanks, found this one..
Waxoyl High Pressure Spray Gun at www.rimmerbros.co.uk

In terms of prep, its very clean underneath so I think a good wash and degrease with detergent, wire brush to flaky bits. Then do you think waxoyl on top or do you think some type of rust converter such as Por 15?

Also have decided to use axle stands rather than ramps as my tyres are 235's and I cant find ramps big enough. Found these ones
6 Ton Axle Stands - pair

Looking forward to doing it now...

Bought a compressor and gun this morning - slow day in the office and ebay :)

Right, now to find some vats of waxoyl... black for underneath and inside cavities or clear for the cavities would you reckon?

Ankor wax by morris lubricants is much much better than waxoyl.
I used waxoyl for years and it always came of and never seemed to last.
Did the s2 chasssi last year in anchor wax and its still soft and covering all the important bits, plus the ankor wax doesnt need thinning down
I think waxoyl is one of them british products that is living on its name rather than the quality of the product itself.
Ankor wax the same price.

guys...

about my question above on this... does the chassi need to be spotless before waxoyling?

even using the pressure washer underneath, there's still a fine layer of dirt and some spots of thicker dirt... the only way to really get it spotless would be to get underneath with a bucket of hot water and sponge..

will have to do this? does it need to be spotless?

as clean as possible, faint traces of dust are not an issue, but if it is too dirty the dirt will fall off or trap moisture.

Yes as the dirt are really a acid and steel will react with the dirt and will still cause rust even when covered with waxoyle.

Scrape and wire brush but the inside of frame rails is the worst place for rust to stay hidden until to late.

that's the thing.. I've been using a wire brush on an air grinder running off the compressor, it cleans everything but leave a layer of dust, which not even with the pressure washer I can get rid off complelty....

so that's what i was wondering, if it would be alright like that. of course that massive lumps of mud are no good as they'll fall off eventually, and leave the chassi exposed again.

for the inside of the chassi, a mate has an extension that came with his pressure washer, which is used to unblock drain, im just going to feed that through the holes on the chassi to wash inside.... impossible to know how clean it will get though!

but after, I plan on spraying waxoyil inside as the gun im buying comes with an extension for cavities.

Personally I reckon waxoyl is rubbish.

I prepared and treated the chassis on my 110 two years ago perfectly - steam cleaned, wire brush etc and in much of it you would never know it had been touched.

Go to a chandlers and get some proper paint, it will cost more but will deffo last at lot longer.

I just pressure washed my chassis, no wire brushing etc
Not perfect but as i do them annually i dont see it as a problem
Both waxed on the flat no need to lift them up.

hey muddy... have you waxoyl yours yet??

I'm all ready!
6L of Waxoyl bought, 2L of white spirit and spray gun.

chassi pressure washed 4 times, flaky bits wire brushed

I've also ordered a new 2" lift suspension as mine is completly foked...

My plan is to lift the 90 off the ground using 4 axle stands on the axles
take wheels off and cover brakes and discs with plastic bags
Go mental with the spray gun and waxoyl everywhere...

then, remove the old suspension and fit the new one.

what's your views on this plan? sounds right? so I dont cake the new suspension in waxoyl?

Damn you are more oganised than me!

Have jet washed underneath twice, degreasing in between. Have 10 litres of black waxoyl, compressor and gun, just waiting for a 1 litre can to arrive so i can start spraying. Still need a final brush for any remaining loose stuff.

Weather is really warm today and forecast till the weekend so an ideal time and reckon I'll start spraying friday eve/saturday. Might actually start this evening with a brush around the wheel wells.

Haven't got axle stands so have been crawling underneath, which I'm regretting so you're wise with the stands. I really need to get a decent jack and some stands but its been money money money for the last month..

Your plan sounds good with the brakes/suspension, with them out the way you can just blitz away.

Compare notes in a few days...

yep... my plan is also to make use of the good weather we are having to get it all sprayed, so hopefully will get it done over the weekend :D

Fit the new suspension first as you wont believe how dirty you get working on a car with a waxed chassis.

what mix are you going to do / have done?
above, people said to do a 50/50 mix, but the waxoyl can says to mix 20% of white spirit?

Yes all done.

Actually I probably only used 10% white spirit inside the chassis box sections but the weather was hot, the now waxoyled black chassis was hot and the waxoyl was water and sun heated.

I was struggling with the poxy piece of plastic tube that came with my schultz gun so I just sprayed direct from the gun into every hole. It vaporised so much that there was clouds of the stuff (clear waxoyl) coming out of every hole from front to back.

I will recheck it within a year but for the first go I'm pretty happy - I think the weather has certainly helped. Next time I will use axle stands though and I will remove wheels and protect brakes properly, I did have a slightly scary experience the first time I took it out..

So it was all done for the l2b run today - pah no one complimented me on my lovely black chassis, miserable fu**ers.

Probably used 5 litres of black and 2 of clear. Next I need to remove door cards and do inside the doors but I'll leave that for another day. Want to have some fun in her now.

Hows yours doing, am well impressed by your prep, mine was a lot more 'heath robinson',
