It would appear that the diesel has waxed up in our P38 d DSE 1997 due temperature here in France varying between -14 and -6 for the last two weeks.
Will it de-wax itself when the temperature rises above freezing, or does it need assistance, if so, what?

A small amount of petrol added to the tank will stop the diesel from waxing. According to EU law all diesel in Europe should have anti waxing agents added in the refinery at certain times of the year.

In the old days, when everything was black and white, people used to use paraffin lams (the type they used for road works) and they lit them under the fuel tank to warm it up that way, and oil rags too, but with a plastic tank, all your gona do is make a very big RR bonfire
 
straight non modified diesel shouldnt "wax" until it is around -14,
winter diesel is standard diesel with varying amounts of additives based on locality and temperature variations, if your diesel is waxing at only -6 i would say you have a little water or other contaminant in there, try warming your fuel filter with a hairdryer and cranking the starter with the water drain open, it should be enough to shift the blockage.

I havent added anything to my diesel this year, but some winters we need to boost the anti-waxing agents with additional crap that should resist freezing until about -40

All diesel in France has anti waxing agent added in winter unless you are running on RED when you have to ask for the anti waxing to be added. Mine was fine at minus 18C. Are you sure it's a waxing problem and not bacterial growth in the tank? Symptoms can be similar, if the fuel filter is full of black slime, it's bacteria:eek:
If it's wax, it will eventually unfreeze but it can take a long time.
