I have been informed that the bushes on the Watts Linkage on my 51 plate TD5 are worn. Is there a way to test the linkage.

(I have a knocking noise coming from the rear axle somewhere)

Land Rover claim that the bushes cannot be bought seperately and the entire linkage must be purchased at almost £400.

Does anyone know if this is the case if not where can the bushes be obtained, is changing the bushes a diy job and are any special tools required.

The manual states that the air suspension is made safe before commencing work or the chassis may lower onto the bump stops - whats the best way to do this.

Many thanks

This might not be a massive help but I recently enquired about a set of bushes change and I'm sure the watt's linkage ones were on there along with the radius arms, shock mounts, etc etc...

The best way to ensure you're not squashed by the air suspension lowering is to jack the car up on the chassis itself instead of any of the suspended parts (axle, etc.) I do this as a matter of course on mine for the same reason when working under the car - just in case you clip an air line underneath and empty the bags! Ouch.

As far as I know you need a great big press to get the old bushes out and the new ones in. Something you're not likely to have at home? But I could be wrong - not sure if anyone can onfirm that you need a press for the Watts Linkage in particular?
