i have a 95 reg 300tdi disco that is a really good workhorse. it's done the occasional pay and play, towed horse boxes and caravans. never been any trouble at all, until.

4 am, load kids, wife, suitcases pack up etc for the 3hr drive to london airport. 5 miles then gradually gets slower until it stops. no panic, change fuel filter. wahaay cured. again 5 miles later same happens. er quick calculation. 5 miles at a time between bleeding = missed flight. fortunately a true friend turns out with a spare car he can lend us, and disco is dumped in a farm yard till our return.

well after loads of head scratching it turns out the water trap underneath had corroded through from the top, allowing a small air leak that had developed just enough to stop the old girl.

just one to watch for when all the obvious suspects are ok.
