Water pump (I think) help urgent

Ok I started this myself but now I'm stuck. I can't get into the power steering pulley and that has to come off to get at one bolt for the water pump.

Any tips for access or do I need a 32mm spanner to take the fan off?

Will any 32mm spanner do or do I need a special thin looking one?

special one. change yo usercp to show where yu are.

It's alright halfrauds have one for £12, need to go get that and a torque wrench anyway, reckon buying the tools will be less than having the mechanic do it anyway.

Power steering pump pully should have an Alan key spinal to help remove the pully

ok I have everything off but I missed the post so I can't put it back together until tomorrow.

Getting the pulley off the power steering was tricky, kept the belt on then with a breaker bar applied more pressure to it (old belt, old tensioner don't care). and got it off.

Removed the viscous fan with tool, made everything a lot easier.

Now to clean and prep surfaces before I put the new gasket, pump and tensioner on.

As the radiator still has coolant in it, I'm just going to top it up with water to start with and then do a full change because it's due one. Or should I let everything out now and start fresh?

I don't want to mix new and old coolant.

the rest cleaned up ok though, should I go as far as polishing/ cleaning with a nylon brushing it with my dremel or is that overkill?

Oh I searched and it seems new pumps have the allen key but the original pump doesn't and you're supposed to use a strap wrench which will be fun when trying to torque the nuts back on.

Ok everything is back together. No leaks, ran it up to temperature, everything is fine.

To torque the pulleys back on I put the old tensioner and belt on, pushed it in the opposite direction so it was tight and the wheels couldn't spin, tightened everything up then released and replaced tensioner and belt.

Thanks very much for all the help, as you can see at the start of the thread I thought there wasn't a chance in hell of me doing it and now job's a good un.

Excellent news FS, and very well done.

Next you'll be whipping engines out over a weekend just for the fun of it.

Again, well done.
