Hi
2001 4.0 v8 disco...the sunroof leaks and its loosing water...are the two linked??...Only joking!
Its ran fine since ive had it and did a big run to Gloucs the other week, when i came back i decided to check all the levels in morning and found no water in the header tank, strange i thought cos the temp guage is bang on..added about 3/4 pint of water and put cap back on,drove to work next day and noticed temp guage rising a bit but then went back fairly quickly, when i got to work and switched off it dumped the water id put in through the header tank overflow but when driving home it was fine, there is no gunk under the oil cap and i cant see any leaks, the exhaust smokes a little bit on start up but clears in minutes.
What do you reckon is up?
Im tempted to just run it as it is but worried it will eventually run dry,was thinking of using k-seal but dont know much about it...any info guys?
I still luv it!!!

Are you using a 50/50 mix of OAT spec antifreeze, and did you bleed the system when you filled it up?

V8's are notorious for air locks in the cooling system, and subsequent overheating and damage.

To bleed, you have to raise the header tank up out of its brackets with the hoses connected, and fill up, bleeding from the centre of the top hose. The later hose sets have the bleed point in the middle of the top hose plastic T-piece rather than the hose itself.

Once running, leave the filler cap off briefly and check that there are no continuous bubbles coming up in the coolant.

Thanks for that Peter, that sounds like the sensible first option...will get on to that tomorrow weather permitting.
The temp guage only went up to about 3/4 way on the guage,no where near the red so im hoping it is something simple and not the dreaded gaskets!!
Have you had any dealing with the k seal additive?...i was tempted to whack some in but dont know if it can do more damage than good??

I'd not use it, it only puts off the inevitable if you have had a gasket gone, and it's money down the drain if not.

Either way it's a waste of money unless it's a get you home situation, and then you're miles from a garage anyway!

Be methodical, try and sort things out in sequence and don't jump for 'quick' remedies.

Yup,i got that impression from a few previous posts.
are there any bleed points for venting air out of the system?

my p38 does exactly this, I think I'll have a crack at bleeding the system, exactly the same, runs fine, nothing in the header, fill it up, runs fine but stop and it is empty again
