I want to add more preload to the waste gate on my D2 auto TD5, I have read up on how its done and i have already added 2 turns and its made a difference.. but reading more many keep adding until the ECU senses overboost and kicks into limp mode then backing off a turn.. I want to try this to get the most out of my TD5 but is there any risk of damage?.. is it safe to keep adding preload until limp mode kicks in.. want advice before making a potential mistake

Might be a bit of conflict on this one, personally I have mine on about 11 threads, you can count them.. its tricky though. It does make a difference and mines never gone into limp mode. As far as I know there is no damaging effect on the engine from turning it up a little, or the wear would be very little. and I believe there is another safety measure in place if the boost became too much, but don't quote me on that. Might find it uses a little more fuel, but I think around 11 threads left is about the limit.

You may also want to bypass the small pipe that comes out of the waste gate and run it straight to the intercooler pipe, and bypass the electric module, they can cause problems and see no need for them, defenders don't have them.

The wastegate modulator is there to not let boost to the actuator valve at low revs as to improve throttle response untill enough boost builds up to gain more power at higher revs, it's very usefull and that's why the stock D2 has more power than the defender and works at higher factory boost.... the best way to increase boost untill the overboost limit is to add a manual boost controller between the modulator and the valve and let the wastegate rod at factory lenght cos the shorter you make it the boost will rise but the boost curve will be very ''abrupt" which makes the vehicle more "jerky" when you release or push the throttle.

I made live tests on mine in all situations and the one with MBC after the WGM is the best... this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/TURBO-MANU...PRING-VALVE-/220537042109?hash=item33590834bd ... though i have a forge wastegate actuator too which made the setup even better
