Hi gents just ordered an updated intercooler for my 200tdi disco conversion, so will be adjusting the boost and fuel pump to match, but I remember reading somewhere about moving the fuel pump and waste gate boost pipe up onto the inlet manifold and blanking off at the turbo, is this a good idea and what would the benefits be by doing this?

There's lower pressure at the inlet manifold than at the turbo itself, so the fuelling would be less with the pipe in that position, wouldn't there?

The idea is to move the wastegate pipe to the manifold so that you get full boost pressure at the manifold before the wastegate opens ;)

It gives you a better setup of the fueling as you will be adding lag to the system, it wouldn't really make all that much difference though I expect. If your playing with the turbo pressure and adding an intercooler then your best of running a boost gauge from the inlet manifold to let you know you true turbo pressure and give you a more accurate setup.

Would it not be better to have the waste gate from the manifold and the fuel pump pipe from the turbo?

Wastegate is there to protect turbo from overboosting, so best to leave as set, you would get less fuel if you move it to the manifold as the pressure will be less and give less movement on the diaphram in the pump. Make sure you have a boost gauge fitted before messing about, give me a call if you need a hand with the fuel pump I have tweeked a few, make small adjustements is best as you can send the EGT sky high with just minor adjustments.
