Hi Guys,

My 2 year old Freelander is due for it's service. I've rang a few $tealers and have been quoted around £300 - can't I'm best pleased with this price!!

A Couple of questions if I may??

1) If I get it serviced elsewhere how does this affect the warranty on the car?

2) Any recommendations for a good garage to do the aforementioned service in the Leeds or Halifax area?

Many Thanks

go fur whoever gives the best price. . . .just make sure they do the correct level of service and use the correct oils ect, and give you a stamp in yer service book. . . . .un reckomendations is er good fing:) :) :)

woth one proviso - make sure they are VAT registered.

I read somewhere about manufs have to honour warranty claim if it has been serviced elsewhere providing it is a "legitimate garage" - the definition was "one registered fur VAT" - in other words - not ya next door neighbour:D

You need to read the small print on the warrenty, mine is with network q and says that I should get it serviced inline with the manufacts recs. ie 70k and the book should be stamped accordingly. If its a large service eg70k the £300 from an independant will be close my local charges as follows

Service Miles
6,000 12,000 24,000 36,000 48,000 60,000 72,000
Freelander 1.8 petrol £78.00 £155.00 £175.00 £189.00 £179.00 £151.00 £371.00
Freelander Dci (Early Diesel) £78.00 £168.00 £212.00 £199.00 £433.00 £164.00 £247.00
Freelander TD4. £78.00 £211.00 £246.00 £266.00 £266.00 £235.00 £234.00

EU legislation means that you don't have to get your car serviced by a main dealer. However, it needs to be a VAT registered garage and they need to follow mfg servicing schedule and use genuine parts to keep full warranty intact. Get service book stamp AND invoice. Some mfgs won't accept a stamp alone as proof!

Cheers

I had issues soon after I bought from main dealer. As a result I was promised "We will look after you at service time" - no joy from them.

Sent a long snotty e-mail to head of dealership - received an apologetic phone call and 50% off main $tealer service price - overall quite pleased with the outcome.
